Using a slideshow to present material to an audience or class can be a great, effective and engaging way to guide and structure a lesson. Even material one might consider boring can be livened up with a well designed PowerPoint. Unfortunately, despite the fact that there are many preset templates in both PowerPoint and Google Slides, good slideshow design is not guaranteed, and often using the same template or poor templates over and over again can be distracting from your presentation (especially for someone like me, who can't stand poorly designed or 90's looking slides)!
One of my favourite tools for avoiding this slideshow design trap is to use a website called SlidesCarnival. SlidesCarnival has some great alternative templates and themes that can be used in both PowerPoint or Google Slides.
If you choose Use As Google Slides you will be ask to make a copy of the template.
Once copied, the template will be added to your Google Drive and will automatically open in Google Slides for you to edit.
If you choose Download as PowerPoint Template the template will automatically download to your computer as a PowerPoint file (.pptx).
Open this file in PowerPoint to edit.
