Welcome to the George Jay Library Learning Commons - Digital edition!
Happy Rainbow Week everyone!
Here is a beautiful book that introduces terms about gender identity through a lovely story about a group of friends.
If you are looking to read works by nonbinary or transgender authors, Novelist (a source for ebooks that is linked to in our district website) now offers those options in the advanced search section. It is still not inclusive of other gender identities, but we were so pleased to see this step away from a M/F binary option! See below for a quick tutorial showing you how to do that search.
A beautiful story about loving yourself as you are.
Read by author Calida Rawles.
Warriors is a popular series in our library. There is a graphic novel version and a chapter book. This is chapter 1 of the first book in the chapter book series.
On the district eLibrary site, there are tons of resources, including Audiobooks, ebooks, and magazines.
Three of Mme O'Connor's favourite read aloud resources are:
StoryTime from Space (Astronauts reading in space!!! How cool is that?!)
CBC Children's Writers (Authors and illustrators reading their books or leading workshops)
Indigenous Storybooks (beautiful books available in 5 Indigenous languages, English, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Norwegian, and 2 Indigenous Mexican languages!)
There are some good suggestions here, but as with everyone, it really helps to be interested in what you're reading! I would recommend Googling selections to see if there's a preview of the book. Please note that I do not own these pages, and the content may change at any time. Please always be careful with sites by unknown authors.
This Canadian book series releases lovely leveled books in Inuktut, French, and English.
