A School-Based Team (SBT) is an on-going group that works as a support network and problem-solving unit. Every school in SD61 has their own SBT. Like most SBTs, ours consists of a small group of regular members which includes our principal, school-counsellor, our ELL and Inclusive Ed. teacher and myself. When planning for individual students, the team also includes the student's classroom teacher and, as appropriate, additional members of their support team. Students are usually referred to SBT by their classroom teacher, often in consultation with the student's parents/guardians.
School-Based Team responsibilities include:
Collaborating on school-based decisions and planning
Assisting classroom teachers in the development and implementation of instructional and/or management strategies
Helping to coordinate additional support resources and services for students
Initiating referrals for students to access other school, district or community services
