Hello Students, Parents, and Guardians,
My name is Taylor Ferda and and I am the 8th grade history teacher on Team Pathfinder. This is my 16th year of teaching, fifteen of which have been here at KMS. I was born and raised in Whitefish, Montana and went to Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota for my undergraduate education. At Bethel I received a double major in History and Social Studies Education. I continued my education at the University of Montana where I received a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2015. In addition to teaching 8th grade students in Social Studies, I coach KMS cross country with my wife Marie, as well as coach sprints and relays for the KMS track and field program.
Outside of the classroom I enjoy climbing in Glacier National Park, road and mountain biking, running, camping, golfing, reading, listening to music/podcasts, spending time with family and friends, and being a dad. Marie and I have two boys, Leyton (9 years) and Hudson (6 years).
I am excited and honored to be at KMS and on Team Pathfinder for the 2025-2026 school year. Please do not hesitate to contact me throughout this school year!

8th grade Social Studies primarily focuses on Montana History. This includes helping students better understand the history of our state, including major figures, events, and impacts that shape present-day Montana. In addition to this study, students will periodically analyze important current events that are impacted our world. Throughout the course, history will be looked at through the themes of Social Studies (Geography, Government, Economics, Culture) as a way to help equip students with essential 21st century skills such as digital citizenship, research, source evaluation, historical thinking, reading, writing, and speaking/listening.
