Pack News

Sam Barber, a 2017 graduate and all state football player, traveled to Seattle in June to repair a heart condition known as a Mitral Valve Prolapse. This announcement came as a shock to many within the Wolfpack community as most people knew that Sam was headed to Northern Montana on a football scholarship that he earned from two outstanding seasons at safety for the Pack.

Sam is the final Barber of an amazing wrestling family to graduate from Glacier High. Zach, Jackson, Quinn, and Sam all flourished on the mat for the Pack and have been influenced by current head Wolfpack wrestling coach Ross Dankers.

Once Ross Dankers, Glacier’s Head Wrestling Coach, heard that the family would have to pack up and go to Seattle for the surgery for an extended stay, he started a GoFundMe account for the Barber family. Ross’s goal was to assist the family with $5000 . This fund would help to offset the myriad expenses associated with the surgery and accommodations in Seattle. Once the fundraiser began, Ross along with the help of social media contacted the Wolfpack and wrestling communities. Within days, the GoFundMe account totaled an amazing $6680.

The Barber’s have had their share of medical challenges including battles with cancer, concussions, knee surgery’s, shoulder surgery’s, mono, and various other health issues that a family with four boys would have during their high school athletic careers. It was a testament to the Wolfpack family how quickly they rallied behind Sam this past summer. Sam’s surgery was a success despite a few initial complications and he has been seen hiking in the valley and preparing for college. The Barber family is incredibly thankful for the generous support of the Wolfpack community and the leadership of Coach Ross Dankers.
