Introduction
Welcome to the Flathead High Speech & Debate program. We are excited that you have shown an interest in the most successful team at FHS, as well as a very rewarding and meaningful program.
Being a part of this program should be considered a privilege. Nationally ranked and with 26 state championships, winning is absolutely part of our tradition . . .
Commitment, dedication, hard work through discipline, team support, attitude, and good sportsmanship are at the heart of FHS Speech & Debate.
The coaching staff expects students to make appropriate and mature choices in all aspects of their lives.
Students are expected to follow all Flathead High and Montana High School Association rules. This includes no use of drugs (including tobacco and alcohol) at all during the season.
Seniors who are considering graduating early, or joining the FVCC Running Start program or other similar programs, are encouraged to check with FHS and MHSA eligibility guidelines.
Practices
Practice schedules vary based on a student's event and coach. As a general rule, squads will practice Monday-Thursday after school.
While we pride ourselves in developing a flexible practice schedule, it should be noted that attending practice twice a week is required. Coaches are more than willing to be creative to make this work.
Tournaments
All students who are eligible to compete at FHS and who follow our practice guidelines will be given the opportunity to compete in either varsity or JV tournaments.
What Now?
Students must pay the $35 activities fee and must complete ONLINE medical release and parent consent forms as soon as possible. Please note that all students must carry insurance. Reduced school insurance options are available.
Students must purchase an FHS Activity Pass. For more information, stop by the activities office.
We encourage our parents to join the FHS Booster Club--a club whose generous contributions to our program pay for our travel meals and benefit the team.
We also have an active Speech and Debate Parent Group. They help organize snacks for tournaments, assist in fundraising efforts, and sponsor parents’ night. Please fill out the Parent’s Group Interest Form for more information!
