SYLLABUS
AP PSYCHOLOGY
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 0.5 credit Social Sciences class is designed to teach students the major concepts, theories, research, and ideas of an introductory psychology course. This class will follow the unit guidelines provided by the AP Psychology community, and has the goal of preparing students for the AP Psychology Exam on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I firmly believe that all students have the capacity to learn, and that it is my job as an educator to tap into this potential and challenge my students to push themselves to grow academically and personally by constantly looking for ways in which students can explore topics of interest to them while learning critical communication skills. I carefully plan my content and instructional strategies so that they are rigorous, relevant, and research-based. I also recognize that students are holistic human beings, and I want to ensure that students feel safe, confident, and valued in my classroom.
EXPECTATIONS
Be on time, on-task, and prepared to learn EVERY DAY
Personal and school-issued electronics are to be used for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY, and only when explicitly given permission by the teacher
Be RESPONSIBLE for your own learning
RESPECT yourself, your teacher, your peers, your classroom, your school, and your community
COMMUNICATE with your teacher regarding issues that affect your health, well-being, and academic performance in this class
Practice ACADEMIC HONESTY at all times and on all assignments
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Any issues of academic dishonesty will be dealt with in accordance to the guidelines and consequences established in the Student Handbook.
First Offense: 0% on the assignment; disciplinary referral; parents and administration will be notified
Second Offense: 0% on the assignment; disciplinary referral; discussion and possible further consequences from administration
Third Offense: 0% on the assignment; potential grade of zero in course; disciplinary referral; administrative involvement
ATTENDANCE POLICY
This class will adhere to the school attendance policies outlined in the student handbook in terms of make-up work, extra time, unexcused absences, tardies, etc. Remember: school-sponsored is a privilege, not a right.
LATE WORK POLICY
Students will receive a 5% late penalty (deducted from score earned) for every two day a major assignment is late (students will be informed at the beginning of each assignment if it falls into this category). Unit Reading/Study Guides will only receive a maximum of half credit if they are late. Formative assessments (except for the Unit Reading/Study Guides) for full credit at any point during the semester.
GRADING POLICY
Semester Breakdown:
40% = Quarter 1, 40% = Quarter 2, 20% = Semester Final
Quarter Breakdown:
20% = In-Class Activities
20% = Test Prep
20% = Unit Exams
20% = Post-Test Projects/Activities
20% = Weekly Discussions (via Classroom)
