DAWN: Pierre Pontvianne’s new creation revels in the quiet
Nestled among two acclaimed works at November’s opening program DAWN is a world premiere from in-demand French choreographer Pierre Pontvianne. This new creation, Cloud Poem, was created in close collaboration with Ballet BC dancers and takes a unique approach to sound, exploring the idea of quietness.
“In the creation process, we used metronomes to establish a common tempo when it became too complex of hazardous to work purely by ear. Then we would remove the metronome to create space for a little risk. From there, I began creating soundscapes to build connections between things—what I think of as ‘harmonic clouds.’”
