Gamification in Education
Gamification in Education
to our OER surveying the landscapes of gamification as it pertains to educational technology.
What is it?
This open education resource (OER) was created by Jodee Skiba, Jessy Sandhu, Brian Pearce, and Jake DePodesta in the summer of 2026 for the course "ETEC-522 - The Innovative Educator", as a submission to an assignment on emerging educational technology (edtech) markets.
The purpose of this OER is to be used as a reference to better understand the emerging market of gamification as it pertains to educational technology. Read on to discover our approach.
How is it structured and how should I navigate it?
As a group of four, we realised early on that we have all come from different professional backgrounds related to education, spanning from elementary to high school, and from international education to school administration. We wanted to leverage that diverse experience, so we decided to divide the OER into four modules, one for each of us. In each module, you'll be guided through learning content and activities that will help you better understand the state of the emerging market of gamification, with specific attention paid to technological gamification.
Are there references I can pursue? Who should I ask if I have questions?
Please see our Wrap Up and Resources page for a complete list of sources and references. If you have any questions about the information provided on a particular module page, please ask the author your question directly by creating a "comment" under the initial Assignment 2 post on the ETEC522 Wordpress blog.
We hope you come away feeling enlightened about the possibilites of the space here!
