Below are some ideas to use for practicing spelling and "tricky" words.

ABC Order - Write your words in a list using abc order.

Bendy Sticks - Write the words using Wikki Sticks or pipe cleaners to make each letter.

Blue Vowels - Write each word and use a blue crayon or marker for the vowels (a, e, i, o, u) only.

Colored Words - Use a different color for each word you write.

Fancy Words - Write the words using fancy letters.

Keyboard Spelling - Type your words on the keyboard.

Magazine Hunt - Cut letters out of a magazine and glue them on paper to make your words.

Magnetic Words - Use magnetic letters to write the words on a cookie sheet, refrigerator, or dishwasher.

Other Handed - Write your words using the hand you don’t normally write with. This is not easy!

Picture Hunt - Draw a picture and hide your words by writing them within the picture.

Pyramid Words - Start by writing the word with one letter only. Then, rewrite the letter adding the second letter.

Keep going adding the next letters one at a time until the word is complete. Example below:

Pictionary - Write your words and then draw a picture to go with each one.

Rainbow Words - Write each word in colored pencil, markers, or crayons. Trace over each word with two different colors.

Roll-a-Word - Pick a word, roll a die, and follow the directions below.

If you roll a 1: Write your word in a sentence.

If you roll a 2: Write your word in your favorite color.

If you roll a 3: Write your word 3 times.

If you roll a 4: Write your word in the air with your finger.

If you roll a 5: Write your word 5 times.

If you roll a 6: Write your word in fancy letters.

Rice Writing - With parent help, put rice, sand, or salt on a plate and write the words in the rice, sand, or salt.

Sign Language - Spell your word with sign language.

Silly Sentences - Use your words in silly sentences. Underline your spelling words in the sentences.

Vowel Highlight - Write each word and go back an highlight the vowels (a, e, i, o, u).
