Wolves top Panthers for Bragging Rights in Oswego!

Wolves Victorious vs. Minooka!

On a beautiful morning at Minooka High School on Saturday, August 29, 2020, the Oswego East Wolves came up with a big victory vs. perennial powerhouse Minooka.  Naylah Allen came up with her first cross country individual win, beating a tough Minooka pair by executing a series of moves throughout the race.  Maddie Zarembski had a strong showing and won the footrace at the finish, edging out the second of Minooka's top pair.  Oswego East scored 23 points to Minooka's 36, as one individual battle after another were won by the Wolves.  Allen won in 19:35.  Zarembski finished 3rd in 19:56.  Next to finish was Ana Barroso, who was 5th in 20:01.  Angeles Mendoza was 6th in 20:18, followed by Morgan Dick in 8th in 20:34 and Meghan Johnson in 9th in 20:39.  Grace Praxmarer rounded out the top ten, finishing in 20:42.  The Wolves took down a highly ranked and reviewed team in the Minooka Indians, showing just how successful this team can be!  Next up is Senior Night and Plainfield Central on September 2.  

Wolves Open Season with a Team Win!

For the first time since early March, the Oswego East distance runners toed the line and raced!  Despite the hot temperatures, it was an amazing day to kick off the season with a 2.1 mile dual against Rosary.  Both the JV and Varsity teams were victorious, each group scoring 23 points.  In the Varsity race, Oswego East scored 23 points and Rosary collected 38.  In the JV race, Oswego East scored 23 points, and Rosary scored 36.  Rosary won the individual crown with returning State Champ Liana Surtz in 12:52.  OE Senior Naylah Allen led the Wolves with her 2nd place overall finish and time of 13:46.  Junior Ana Barroso was the 2nd in the chute, clocking 14:01.  The pack of Wolves that followed included sophomore Angeles Mendoza (5th in 14:23), junior Maddie Zarembski (6th in 14:23), sophomore Grace Praxmarer (7th in 14:30), sophomore Sydney Williams (8th in 14:30), and freshman Morgan Dick (9th in 14:31).  The team had a 45 second split from 1-7 and demonstrated the strength in the pack this season.  

In JV competition, junior Sarah Duffy led the way for the Wolves with her 2nd place finish in 16:43.  Right on Duffy's heels was freshman Ava Saalfeld (3rd in 16:43).  Freshman Josslyn Gaona was next in 5th place with 16:52.  Sophomore Carissa Koopman (6th in 17:23), freshman Tessa Kennicott (7th in 17:26), senior Emily Salmeron (8th in 17:50) and sophomore Monica Lopez (11th in 18:12) rounded out the top 7 for the Wolves.  

The Wolves will be back in action as they race against Minooka on Saturday.  Great start to the season!
