11/4/17--Oswego East TEAM finishes 21st at STATE!

On Saturday, November 4, 2017, the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team toed the line at the IHSA State Meet for the first time in school history!  Abby Flammersfeld, Kendra Standish, Morgan Ede, Kara Webb, Amanda Bonczkowski, Katherine Sim, and Isabella Gyori were the seven runners to wear Oswego East proudly on their jerseys and represent the entire OE team.  This accomplishment has been a long-time goal for the seniors in the program, and was realized due to hard work and the belief that this year could be something special.  The seven athletes, the entire team, the alumni, the coaches, the parents, and the community of Oswego truly worked together to make this a reality.

On the foggy, misty day in November, the Wolves raced against the 24 top teams in the state.  This was truly a year where all the best teams were in attendance, due to balanced Sectionals and the top teams delivering solid performances.  Oswego East was no exception.  It took a 3rd place effort from the Waubonsie Valley Sectional to qualify, and the Wolves were among good company on the line in Peoria.  Abby Flammersfeld led the team from August through November, and was the first wolf to cross the finish line in the final race of the season.  Flammersfeld, who was in great position mile 1, suffered a cramp that altered her racing plan.  She rose the occasion and toughed it out for her team, placing 88th in 18:06.  Kendra Standish had an incredible day, setting a substantial PR of 18:08 and finishing in 96th place.  Morgan Ede was the next to cross the line with a personal best of 18:30, which was good enough for 144th place.  Kara Webb ran strong with Morgan throughout most of the race and finished just behind in a personal best 18:34 in 149th place.  Amanda Bonczkowski put her knee pain aside to finish 5th for the team in a personal best 18:36 in 154th place.  Katherine Sim contributed with her strong pack running, finishing in her personal best 18:39 in 157th place.  Isabella Gyori gutted out a tough race, placing 210th in 20:22.  There isn't a member of the top 12 that didn't battle some sort of injury, illness, or rough patch at some point in the season.  It truly was a team effort that led to racing at Detweiller Park, and the magnitude of the accomplishment was not lost on anyone.  Congratulations on an incredible season and a team accomplishment that will go down in the record books.

10/18/17--Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team Makes School History and

Qualifies for STATE!!!

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team made school history by becoming the first cross country team in school history to qualify for the IHSA State Meet!

The Wolves, who were ranked as high as 14th in the state in the middle of the season, had just fallen out of the rankings as other teams also found their stride in the past few weeks.  The girls proved that the earlier rankings were more accurate and solidified their position by securing third place and the first team qualification in the 14 years Oswego East has been open.

Winning the Waubonsie Valley Sectional was Naperville North, who scored 27 points.  Batavia placed 2nd with 96.  Oswego East scored 151 points for 3rd place.  Naperville Central and Oswego both scored 165 points, with Naperville Central taking 4th and Oswego 5th and the last advancing position.

Oswego East was led by Abby Flammersfeld, who finished in 15th place in 18:36.  Flammersfeld was not far behind the top ten, as only 10 seconds separated 8th through 15th place.  Kendra Standish was 2nd for the Wolves, finishing in 31st in 19:05.  Standish ran a smart and controlled race, demonstrating her leadership and poise.  Morgan Ede was next in 19:09 and 34th place.  Kara Webb was close behind in 19:10 in 36th place.  Katherine Sim was the 5th scorer for the Wolves, finishing in 39th in 19:16.  Amanda Bonczkowski came in a strong 42nd place in 19:18.  Isabella Gyori ran a tough race and finished in 20:47.  Despite not having any runners in the top 10, the pack of Ede, Webb, Sim, and Bonczkowski were the key to the Wolves qualification.  Flammersfeld and Standish provided the 1-2 punch like they have been doing throughout the season, and the pack of Wolves ran gutsy, inspiring races, passing runners all the way into the chute.

It is extremely tough to be the first to do anything.  This team (the 7 who raced and the 20 teammates who work alongside them), were able to stay focused and confident, knowing that every team at the Sectional meet is hoping to earn another week of the season.  Every athlete on the team played a role, and Coach Cook and Coach Ideran are insanely proud of all the work it took to get to today, and how the team executed in order to make it happen.  The Wolves will race at historic Detweiller Park on Saturday, November 4.  The girls will race at 1:00 pm and go down in the books as the first State Qualifying TEAM in Oswego East history!

10/21/17--Wolves Place Third at West Aurora Regional and Advance to IHSA Sectional!

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team placed 3rd at the West Aurora Regional to advance to the Waubonsie Valley Sectional.  The competitive race featured teams from Oswego, Aurora, Naperville, and Batavia.  Batavia won the meet with 29 points, followed by Oswego with 77.  Oswego East was only 5 points from 2nd place with 82 points.  Metea Valley and Neuqua Valley both scored 103 points, followed by Waubonsie Valley, West Aurora, and East Aurora.

Leading the way for the Wolves was Abby Flammersfeld, who finished in 5th place.  Flammersfeld ran the 3 mile course in 17:57.  Kendra Standish was next, running a personal best 18:28 and placing 15th.  The pack of Wolves followed, with Katherine Sim (19th in 18:40) and Morgan Ede (20th in 18:40), Amanda Bonczkowski (23rd in 18:51), and Kara Webb (24th in 18:54).  The first long straightaway made the first mile feel quick, and the Wolves got a little strung out in the middle stages of the race.  They came together nicely at the end for a strong team showing and 3rd place team finish.  Oswego East advances with the other 5 teams, as well as the top 6 teams and 5 individual qualifiers from the West Chicago and Rockton Hononegah Regionals.

In 2016, the Wolves placed 6th to grab the last advancing position to the Sectional.  From 2016, East graduated one senior from the top 7 but is otherwise very much the same as last year.  The improvement of the program from top to bottom has been astounding, and we are looking for another great race next week to advance to the State Meet in November!

10/14/17--Runner-Up Finish at SPC Conference (Open team takes 1st!)

On Saturday, October 14, 2017 the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team improved by two team places to take runner up status to Minooka.  The Wolves scored 59 points and had 6 varsity athletes make the All-Conference team!  Minooka scored 37 points to win the title.  Oswego took 3rd with 69 points, followed by Plainfield North with 71 and Plainfield South with 160.

The seniors led each level to an abundance of success.  In the Varsity race, senior Abby Flammersfeld led the team with her 3rd place finish in 18:22.  Senior Amanda Bonczkowski was next in 11th place in 18:50.  Morgan Ede (14th in 19:04), Katherine Sim (15th in 19:07), Kendra Standish (16th in 19:08) and Kara Webb (18th in 19:22) followed closely behind.  Isabella Gyori was the 7th Wolf to finish in 20:30 and 32nd place.  Flammersfeld, Bonczkowski, Ede, Sim, Standish, and Webb all earned the coveted All-Conference honors, which was the most of any team.

In the F/S race, Emma McKillip led the way in 20:54 to finish 15th place.  Sammie Garcia was next in 16th in 21:04.  Meghan Murphy (21st in 21:45), Liliana Mendoza (22nd in 21:58), Emily Salmeron (24th in 22:04), Naylah Allen (25th in 22:10), and Angie Goduto (39th in 23:50) rounded out the lineup for the Wolves.  The F/S team finished 3rd with 98 points behind Minooka with 21 and Oswego with 54.

In the Open race, Alexandra Dillman's finish place determined the outcome of the team's 47 point tie with Oswego.  Dillman finished 29th, one place ahead of Oswego's 6th runner, clinching the victory for the Wolves.  Leading the race for the Wolves were Alyssa Nepereny (3rd in 21:00), Elyssa Gall (4th in 21:01), Kitty Scheerenberger (6th in 21:17), Kathleen Sim (11th in 21:44), and Anna Stonehocker (23rd in 23:03).

The senior leadership from this group has been outstanding and gotten better with every meet.  From 4th place in 2016 to 2nd place in 2017, this group has improved by leaps and bounds and is ready for the next few weeks of racing!

10/7/17--Wolves Place Third at Blackhawk Stampede!

On Saturday, October 7, 2017, OE's varsity pack ran great, evident by a 20 second split from 1-5.  The Wolves competed at the Blackhawk Stampede and covered the 5k course in times that would rival their own 3 mile times from just a year ago.  Oswego East scored 103 points and placed 3rd behind Yorkville (37 points) and Batavia (44 points).  Abby Flammersfeld was aggressive from the start and was the top finisher for the team, taking 15th place in 19:09.  Morgan Ede followed closely behind in 19:15, which was good enough for 19th place.  The pack came in hot, led by Amanda Bonczkowski (22nd in 19:28).  Kara Webb (23rd in 19:28) and Katherine Sim (24th in 19:29) were less than a second behind Bonczkowski.  Kendra Standish placed 36th in 19:49.  Sophomore Emma McKillip and freshman Sammie Garcia ran varsity for the first time and finished the race in 21:36 and 21:40, respectively.  The tight pack up front was an impressive feat to accomplish, and one the Wolves will build upon in the weeks to come as the competition heats up.

In the F/S race, the Wolves placed 9th with 228 points.  Meghan Murphy (26th in 22:07), Liliana Mendoza (28th in 22:09), Emily Salmeron (50th in 22:44), Naylah Allen (59th in 22:54) and Angie Goduto (87th in 23:55) scored for the Wolves.

In the Open race, OE also placed 9th with 175 points.  Alyssa Nepereny led the way (9th place in 21:40), followed by Kathleen Sim (19th place in 22:10).  Anna Stonehocker (34th in 22:40), Alexandra Dillman (55th in 23:44), and Maddie Patterson (87th in 25:11) also scored points for the team.

All levels are gearing up for next week's SPC Conference Meet at Channahon Community Park!  Great job, ladies!

9/30/17--PRs All Around at Wheaton North Flight Meet!

On Saturday, September 30, the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team competed at the Wheaton North Invitational--the first time ever at a flight meet.  The team took advantage of a beautiful day and a fun course, and nearly ever member of the team set season personal bests.  The day started with a junior/senior race, in which Kitty Scheerenberger led the way.  She finished 21st in 20:26.  Next in the chute was Kathleen Sim in 38th place in 20:47, Anna Stonehocker in 82nd place in 22:11, Alexandra Dillman in 86th place in 22:20, and Marie Krapez in 176th place in 25:36.

The Varsity racers were split into 7 flights.  Elyssa Gall went first, and finished in 15th place in 20:47.  Isabella Gyori took 9th in her flight in 19:33.  Kara Webb ran a fantastic race and placed 5th in her flight in 18:48.  Morgan Ede finished in 7th in her flight in 18:40.  Katherine Sim raced with the top athletes during her flight and came in 4th in 18:37.  Kendra Standish finished 12th in her flight in 18:33.  In the championship flight, Abby Flammersfeld took 2nd place in 17:36, setting a huge PR.

The last race of the day was for the freshman and sophomores, where even more PRs were set.  Emma McKillip finished in 19th place and a huge PR of 20:05.  Sammie Garcia was not far behind in 27th place in 20:17.  Emily Salmeron was the most improved athlete of the day, taking 41st place and covering the course in 20:57.  She was followed by Meghan Murphy in 42nd in 20:58, Liliana Mendoza in 56th in 21:17, Angie Goduto in 75th in 21:44, Naylah Allen in 84th in 22:09, Ellery Patterson in 108th in 23:18, and Jessica Lopez in 157th in 26:47.

Although the varsity team was a little disappointed to finish 8th out of 19 teams, the benefits of individual racing and strategizing were the focus of the race.  Today was a process-focused goal, and the Wolves were successful.  Each race played out in a very unique way, and the athletes looked strong and finished with many personal bests!  Great job!

9/22/17--Wolves Take 2nd in Naperville!

On a hot Friday night on September 22, the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team had a solid performance at the Naperville Invitational.  The Wolves placed 2nd of 11 talented teams.  Abby Flammersfeld was 4th overall in 18:53.  Kendra Standish followed closely behind in 7th place in 19:06.  Katherine Sim was 17th in 19:23, followed by Morgan Ede in 23rd in 19:32 and Kara Webb in 37th in 19:59.  Isabella Gyori finished 48th in 20:18, and Elyssa Gall finished 52nd in 20:28.  Lockport won the race with 44 points, followed by the Wolves with 87, Naperville Central with 93, LincolnWay Central with 101, Benet with 108, Naperville North with 150, and Plainfield North with 150.  This marks the best showing of any Oswego East team at the Naperville Invite.  Bringing home medals on the varsity and open levels and a team plaque for the varsity team shows how much this team has improved, as we collected no hardware at last year's meet.

In the fresh/soph race, four Wolves finished close together and led the team to a 6th place team finish.  Samantha Garcia (22:03), Emma McKillip (22:05), Liliana Mendoza (22:10) and Meghan Murphy (22:12) all finished in the top 35 finishers in the race.  Emily Salmeron was the 5th finisher for the Wolves, reaching the line at 24:02.

In the open race, Alyssa Nepereny (21:33) and Kathleen Sim (21:40)  led the team, finishing in 12th and 16th places, respectively.  Alexandra Dillman (23:54), Anna Stonehocker (23:57), and Maddie Patterson (24:48) were the next 3 Wolves to cross the line, contributing to a 7th place team finish.

The meet was riddled with ambulances and athletes showing signs of dehydration and heat exhaustion.  The Oswego East runners did a great job with the "little things", which allowed them to reach the finish line and recover from the hot conditions.  Great job, girls!

9/19/17--Senior Night Ends in 3rd SPC Dual Win of the Season!

On Tuesday, September 19, 2017, the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team celebrated the efforts and accomplishments of seven seniors!  Amanda Bonczkowski, Alexandra Dillman, Abby Flammersfeld, Isabella Gyori, Alyssa Nepereny, Maddie Patterson, and Kendra Standish have been tremendous, not only in the miles they have logged, but in their dedication to and leadership for the team of 2017.  On their senior night, the team pulled out a convincing win against SPC opponent Plainfield South.  Senior Abby Flammersfeld won the race in 19:32.  One Plainfield South athlete broke into the top 5, placing 2nd.  The rest of the top 8 competitors in the race were Oswego East runners.  Senior Kendra Standish (20:08) was 3rd, Morgan Ede (20:55) was 4th, Kara Webb (21:26) was 5th, Katherine Sim (21:26) was 6th, senior Amanda Bonczkowski (21:26) was 7th, and senior Isabella Gyori (21:32) was 8th.  Senior Alyssa Nepereny was 14th in 22:59, senior Alexandra Dillman was 21st in 24:47, and senior Maddie Patterson was 30th in 28:34.

Thank you to our senior class of 2018.  It has been a pleasure to coach you the past 3-4 years, as you represent exactly what we want our Oswego East distance runners to be.  You are dedicated, responsible, and disciplined.  You are motivated, respectful, and inspirational.  You follow through when asked to do something, and you step up and take initiative when nothing is asked at all.  Our successes as a team would not be possible without great leadership at the top, and you certainly deliver when it comes to providing that leadership.  We are extremely proud of each and every one of you, and we are looking forward to all that you will accomplish in the weeks and months to come!

9/16/17--Wolves Place 4th at Competitive Peoria Notre Dame Invite!

Saturday, September 16, 2017 was a big day.  It was not a surprising day, but it was a great day for the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team.  The Wolves raced in the competitive Richard Spring Invitational hosted by Peoria Notre Dame High School.  Four was the number of the day, as four athletes earned medals, the same four athletes breaking 19 minutes, and both the Varsity and Open levels placed fourth as a team.  Going into the race, there were 10 teams ranked in the top 25 in the state, as well as numerous highly ranked 1A and 2A schools.  Oswego East beat all but 3 (Wheaton Warrenville South, Glenbard West, and Palatine).

Wheaton Warrenville South won the team title with 128 points, based on their 6th runner.  Glenbard West also scored 128 points, and Palatine followed in 3rd with 131 points.  Oswego East scored 235 points to finish 4th, ahead of Oswego High School in 5th with 262 points.  The rest of the top 10 was filled by York (330 points), Stevenson (335 points), LincolnWay Central (379 points), Neuqua Valley (384 points), and Hersey (395 points).

Abby Flammersfeld once again led the pack of Wolves, finishing in 13th place with a personal best of 18:09.  Kendra Standish followed in 39th place with her time of 18:42.  Next was Morgan Ede in 49th place in 18:52, followed by Katherine Sim in 59th place in 18:59.  This marks the first time in school history in which 4 athletes placed at such a large invitational and was also the most athletes to break 19 minutes in one race.  Kara Webb was the 5th runner for the Wolves, finishing in a personal best 19:09 and 75th place.  Amanda Bonczkowski (19:36) and Isabella Gyori (19:54) also competed in the varsity race and had solid efforts for the team.  Beating so many ranked teams put Oswego East on the map and proves just how far this group has come over the past four years!

In the Open race, the Wolves also placed 4th as a team with 153 points.  Wheaton Warrenville South won with 105 points, followed by Glenbard West with 124 and Oak Park River Forest with 126.  Neuqua Valley (174) and LincolnWay Central (174) rounded out the top 6.  As temperatures were rising, the course became more difficult to navigate.  Leading the team in the Open race was junior Elyssa Gall.  Gall placed 24th in 20:34.  She was followed by freshman Samantha Garcia in 20:44 and senior Alyssa Nepereny in 20:57.  Kitty Scheerenberger (21:11) and Susanna Lee (21:15) ran together and followed closely behind, chased by Meghan Murphy in 21:19.  Kathleen Sim (21:37), Emma McKillip (21:42) and Liliana Mendoza (21:47) also ran tough on the state course in hot conditions.

From Coach Cook and Coach Ideran:

"We're not surprised by the results of today, but we're extremely proud.  Great job on an excellent day.  Be excited, be happy, and be ready to work on Monday to keep improving from here!  Job well done!"

9/12/17--Oswego East Records Another Perfect Score!

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, the Oswego East Wolves Girls' Cross Country Team posted their second perfect score of the season!  The Wolves captured the first 12 places against SPC opponent Plainfield East.  Abby Flammersfeld led the pack in 20:02, followed by Kendra Standish in 20:11, Morgan Ede in 20:18, Katherine Sim in 21:15, Isabella Gyori in 21:37, Emma McKillip in 22:58, Rosie Lee in 22:58, Alyssa Nepereny in 23:00, Sammie Garcia in 23:02, Meghan Murphy in 23:02, Liliana Mendoza in 23:07, and Kitty Scheerenberger in 23:08.  Great job, ladies!

9/2/17--Wolves Record 2nd Places at TF South's Rich Dust Invitational

On Saturday, September 2, 2017, the OEHS Girls' Cross Country Team recorded several course bests at TF South's Rich Dust Invitational.  The Wolves tied Lincolnway Central with their score of 37, but lost the tie-breaker on the 6th place runner.  Across the board, times were better than they were a year ago, so the progress, as well as the team outlook thus far, are shaping up for a great season for the Wolves!  Abby Flammersfeld finished first for the Wolves and 4th in the race with her personal best time of 18:34.  Kendra Standish followed, running 18:54, chased closely by Morgan Ede in 18:56.  Katherine Sim and Amanda Bonczkowski also scored for the Wolves, finishing in 19:09 and 19:11, respectively.  Kara Webb (19:34) and Isabella Gyori (20:03) followed closely behind as well.  The 1-5 split was an impressive 37 seconds, while the 7 runner split was just shy of a minute and thirty seconds.

At the Frosh/Soph level, freshman Sammie Garcia led a pack of Wolves to the finish and a second place team finish.  Garcia finished 8th in 20:44, followed by Meghan Murphy in 21:17 (9th place), Liliana Mendoza in 21:25 (10th place), and Emma McKillip in 21:34 (11th place).  Angie Goduto was next in 19th place (22:23).  Emily Salmeron and Naylah Allen wrapped up the 7 finishers, finishing in 22:50 and 23:00.  The sophomores in the race (Murphy, Mendoza, and McKillip) ran strong PRs from last season, while the freshmen crew (Garcia, Goduto, Salmeron, and Allen) are improving by leaps and bounds each meet.

In the open race, Kitty Scheerenberger found herself in the lead pack throughout the race, finishing 3rd in 21:07.  Alyssa Nepereny and Kathleen Sim also ran strong, finishing in 20:55 and 21:10.  Anna Stonehocker finished in 22:12, and Alexandra Dillman moved her way up throughout the race, finishing in 22:30.  The open race is not a scored event, but the Wolves would have finished first regardless.  Great job, Wolves!

8/24/17--Oswego East Records Perfect Score!

On Thursday, August 24, 2017, the Oswego East Girls' Cross Country Team posted a perfect score of 15 against the visiting Plainfield Wildcats.  Senior Abby Flammersfeld led the Wolves and won the race in her time of 19:20.  Classmate Kendra Standish followed in 19:37, followed closely by sophomore Morgan Ede in 19:39.  Isabella Gyori (4th in 20:04), Katherine Sim (5th in 20:06), Kara Webb (6th in 20:14), and Amanda Bonczkowsk (7th in 20:56) completed the sweep by the Wolves.

A handful of underclassmen (Susanna Lee, Sammie Garcia, Meghan Murphy, and Emma McKillip) grouped together and finished 9th, 11th, 13th, and 15th, respectively.  The team used great pack running and mental toughness to tackle the challenging course at Crossroads Church.  Great work, ladies!

8/21/17--Wolves Take 2nd to Yorkville at Yorkville Invite

On the inaugural day of racing for the 2017 cross country season, the Oswego East Wolves placed 2nd to host Yorkville.  The Wolves scored 69 points, behind Yorkville's perfect score of 15.  Rounding out the competition were Rosary with 70, Northside College Prep with 92, Joliet West with 144, West Aurora with 174, and Plainfield South with 182 points.  Senior Abby Flammersfeld led the pack, finishing in 7th place with a time of 19:05.  Senior Kendra Standish placed 12th with her time of 19:46, followed by junior Katherine Sim (15th) in 19:57, sophomore Morgan Ede (18th) in 20:09, and senior Isabella Gyori (22nd) in 20:33.  Elyssa Gall (25th in 20:54 and Kitty Scheerenberger (38th in 21:55) rounded out the top 7 for the Wolves.

The Wolves looked very strong in their season debut, with many athletes beating their 2016 performances by minutes!  Huge improvements by Flammersfeld, Sim, and Ede are what took Oswego East from their 4th place finish last year to 2nd this year.  Other notable performances were Susanna (Rosie) Lee with an improvement of 2 minutes, Meghan Murphy with a 1:54 improvement, and Liliana Mendoza bettered her 2016 performance by 2:53.

Newcomer Samantha Garcia added depth to the Wolves lineup with her 47th place finish.  Freshmen Emily Salmeron, Naylah Allen, Angie Goduto, Ellery Patterson, and Madison Sniegowski also raced for the first time in Wolf uniforms!  The future is bright, as the Wolves have started their 2017 season with a solid performance and a lot to build upon.
