2014 Season and Results

The Oswego East Girls Cross Country Team earned a second week of post-season practice and competition with their 5th place finish at the IHSA Lockport Regional.  The Wolves scored 132 points to advance behind Lockport, Neuqua Valley, Oswego, and Plainfield South.  Bolingbrook placed 6th and took the last qualifying position.  Oswego East was led by junior Abby Cain, who navigated the 5k course in 20:18.  Cain was in the top pack for the first half of the race, before settling in 16th place.  Alexis Henz and Hannah Baur placed 25th and 26th.  Henz ran 20:46, and Baur 20:55.  Freshman Amanda Bonczkowski was the fourth finisher for the Wolves in 31st with a time of 21:14.  She was followed by Abby Flammersfeld in 34th with a time of 21:28.  Madison Boissiere matched the time of Flammersfeld and placed 35th, while Ashley Buado finished in 22:38 in 50th place. 


The team will race next weekend in the IHSA Sectional hosted by Marist High School, with hopes of advancing to the IHSA State Meet on November 8. 


Saturday, October 18--SPC Conference at Lewis University

The Oswego East Girls Cross Country team solidified their position in the top half of the conference with their third place finish at the Southwest Prairie Conference Meet on Saturday, October 18.  On the Varsity level, Oswego East was third with 72 points, behind Minooka (30 points) and Oswego (57 points).  Leading the Wolves and earning All-Conference Honors were Abby Cain (9th), Alexis Henz (12th), and Hannah Baur (13th).  Freshmen Abby Flammersfeld (18th) and Amanda Bonczkowski (20th) were also in the top five for the Wolves.  Madison Boissiere placed 21st, and Ashley Buado placed 31st, rounding out the top 7. 


In the Frosh/Soph race, Oswego East placed third with 80 points, behind Oswego (36) and Minooka (36).  Molly Schiltz really accelerated in the last mile to earn a 6th place finish, while Maddie Patterson also brought home hardware with her 14th place effort.  Elizabeth Munoz, Thyra Kimbell, and Ally Bentel packed together to place 19th, 20th, and 21st, respectively.  Emma Pienkos (23rd) and Alexandra Dillman (24th) were also close behind to round out the frosh/soph team. 


In the Open race, the Wolves would have placed second as a team (if they had officially scored the event).  Natalie O'Hora was the top finisher for the Wolves, taking 3rd place.  Kate Koska was the next one to cross the line in 7th place.  Kyra Garner and Rachel Roschi finished only a few seconds apart in 9th and 10th place, respectively. 


Overall, the Wolves had a solid performance on a tricky and sloppy course.  They compete next at the IHSA Regional next Saturday at Lockport's Dellwood Park. 


Saturday, October 11--West Aurora Blackhawk Stampede


On Saturday, October 11, the Oswego East Girls Cross Country Team set many personal records at West Aurora's Blackhawk Stampede.  The Wolves placed 10th of 15 teams on the Varsity level.  They were led by junior Abby Cain in 18:29.  Sophomore Alexis Henz moved closer to breaking 19:00, running 19:05.  She was followed by freshman Abby Flammersfeld in 19:16 and junior Ashley Buado in 19:24.  Freshman Amanda Bonczkowski was the 5th scorer for the Wolves in 19:26.  Madison Boissiere (19:55) and Natalie O'Hora (20:31) were the 6th and 7th runners, respectively. 


In the frosh/soph race, Molly Schiltz led the Wolves to an 8th place finish.  She finished in a season best time of 20:44.  Schiltz was followed by Maddie Patterson in 21:10, Elizabeth Munoz in 21:11, and Alexandra Dillman in 21:22.  Thyra Kimbell (21:36), Emma Pienkos (21:45), and Ally Bentel (21:48) also raced well for the Wolves. 


Saturday's race provided another opportunity for personal bests prior to the conference meet.  The Wolves are back in action at Lewis University for the SPC Conference race on Saturday, October 11. 


Saturday, October 4--Niles West Pat Savage Invitational

After a tough couple of races in Lockport and Naperville the previous week, the Girls Cross Country Team had a great showing at the Pat Savage Invitational, hosted by Niles West High School.  On the varsity level, the Wolves won with a total of 63 points.  The team was led by Abby Cain (19:00) and Alexis Henz (19:10).  Hannah Baur followed closely behind in 19:36, followed by Abby Flammersfeld in 19:39 and Amanda Bonczkowski in 20:04.  Madison Boissiere (20:10), Ashley Buado (20:24), Natalie O'Hora (21:01), and Kyra Garner (21:10) also competed in the varsity race.  

The Frosh/Soph team placed seventh, despite only having six runners compete.  Kate Koska (21:43), Alexandra Dillman (21:44), and Ally Bentel (21:49) led the pack.  

In the two-mile open race, the Wolves packed up for a second place finish.  Freshman Molly Schiltz led the way in 14:04, followed closely by Rachel Roschi in 14:05 and Ally Filicicchia in 14:14.  

Despite cold, wind, and rain/snow showers, the Wolves had a great day and are gearing up for the final month of the season!  Great job, ladies!

Saturday, September 13--Peoria's First to the Finish Invitational

On Saturday, September 13, the Varsity Girls Cross Country Team traveled to Peoria to race at the historic Detweiller Park.  The Wolves boasted season best times for every single athlete.  Abby Cain was the first to cross the line for the team, running 18:22 and placing 46th.  Alexis Henz followed in 19:13, and Abby Flammersfeld ran 19:38 in her first varsity race of the season.  Hannah Baur was next in 19:50, followed by Madison Boissiere (20:04), Ashley Buado (20:09), Amanda Bonczkowski (20:12), Natalie O'Hora (20:32), Alyssa Nepereny (20:45), and Alexandra Dillman (21:38).  The Wolves placed 22nd in the competitive 38 team field.  Great job, ladies!


Thursday, September 11--Minooka Super Quad

The Oswego East Girls Cross Country Team competed in a Super-Quad hosted by Minooka on September 11.  The Wolves beat both Oswego and Romeoville in head to head competition, but fell to Minooka.  In varsity competition, Abby Cain led the pack, placing 5th with a time of 19:35.  Alexis Henz and Hannah Baur followed, in 20:30 and 20:32, respectively.  Kyra Garner (21:50) and Madison Boissiere (21:53) rounded out the scoring members of the team. 


In the fresh/soph race, Abby Flammersfeld (20:47) and Amanda Bonczkowski (21:25) led the way, followed by Alyssa Nepereny (21:45), Alexandra Dillman (22:17), and Elizabeth Munoz (22:27).  The fresh/soph team beat Romeoville and lost to both Oswego and Minooka. 


The highlight of the day was sharing the experience with Churchill Elementary School students, Rex and Greyson.  The pair were honorary "Captains for the Day" and got to experience a high school cross country meet with the team.  Thanks to Churchill Elementary, Rex, and Greyson for participating! 


Saturday, September 6--TF South Rich Dust Invitational

On Saturday, September 6, 2014, the Oswego East Girls Cross Country Team competed at the 43rd Annual Rich Dust Invitational hosted by TF South.  The Wolves came away with some hardware, with the Fresh/Soph team winning the first race, and the Varsity team finishing fourth.  In the varsity race, Abby Cain led the Wolves with her 2nd place finish and a time of 19:28.  Alexis Henz followed in 19:59 and placed 10th.  Madison Boissiere, Natalie O'Hora, and Ashley Buado rounded out the top five, finishing in 21:31, 21:59, and 22:06, respectively.  Kyra Garner (22:39) and Elizabeth Munoz (24:25) also ran varsity for the Wolves. 


In the Fresh/Soph race, the Wolves had the best pack amongst the teams, finishing with their top five runners in the top 30 and winning the team race.  Abby Flammersfeld led the pack, finishing in 5th place in 21:31.  Teammate Amanda Bonczkowski also finished in 21:31 and placed 6th.  Alyssa Nepereny followed in 22:06.  Alexandra Dillman completed the 3 mile course in 22:38, Kate Koska in 22:56, and Emma Pienkos in 23:13.  Ally Bentel was the final finisher for the Wolves in 23:56. 


In the Open race, the Wolves were well represented, with 7 of their 10 runners placing in the top 20.  Sarah Balla led the way in 3rd, followed by Jessica Eberly in 4th and Rachel Roschi in 7th.  Maddie Patterson (9th), Ally Filicicchia (14th), Libby Roeder (17th), and Morgan Osman (19th) were the top finishers for the Wolves.

2nd Annual Banana Split Relays!

Great job to the entire team for competing in the 2nd Annual Banana Split Relays!  Top three teams are as follows:

(Coach Milner and Coach Cook are actually the reigning champions for two years in a row, but we admit that our team is stacked!)
