Prepared Speech Assignment

Platform Speech Events

Platform speech events allow students to research and write their own speeches. At the beginning of the year, most students utilize an outline or notecards during their speech, but by mid-year, there is an expectation that students should have their speech memorized.

At the district tournament, students may compete in two events, but the events must be in different patterns. The patterns are set as "A" and "B".

These events require students to find a published manuscript that they would like to interpret. It is different from acting because we don't use props, costumes or makeup. Each one has its own nuances.  They do require you to get out of your comfort zone a bit.
