CHS Band Staff

CHS Band Director - Mackenzie Caress

Ms. Caress earned two Bachelor's degrees in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from Idaho State University in the Spring of 2025. During her student teaching, she learned from wonderful mentors, including Mr. Michael Helman at Franklin Middle School and Mrs. Meghan Fay Olswanger at Boise High School. Ms. Caress is originally from Nampa, ID and loves all things music! She is excited to continue her career at Century High School and teach the wonderful students of Pocatello.

Percussion Instructor - Jake Knieval

Jake has taught at Century for nearly 10 marching band seasons. He has worked with a number of high schools in the area and for independent percussion sections, including Rift Percussion and the Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps. Jake has a bachelor's degree in percussion performance and is a graduate student at ISU. He likes hiking, cats, and audiobooks.

Percussion Instructor - Ryker Harrison

Ryker grew up in Rexburg, Idaho, and played a variety of instruments growing up, including piano, flute, oboe, and mellophone. He found percussion his first year of high-school and never looked back, playing marimba, vibraphone, tenors, and snare over the course of the next 4-years. He later went on to complete 4 additional years marching snare at ISU as well as marching two seasons of indoor drumline (WGI, NSI 2017 and Rift 2022). When he's not drumming, Ryker is either working at ICCU or spending time with his wife Alexa.

Guard Coach - Elly McCabe

Elly has been part of the Century Color Guard family since 2020, bringing energy, creativity & dedication to every performance. She has performed with Prismatic Winter Guard & currently attending ISU. She is deeply committed to growing as both a performer & a mentor. Her favorite part of coaching is learning new skills from other members and continuiously refining her craft.

Responsible for leading and organizing fundraising efforts. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other band members, parents, and community members.

Equipment Chair

Responsible for managing and overseeing all equipment-related needs for the band. This role is crucial in ensuring that the band has the necessary instruments, uniforms, and other equipment to perform successfully.

Food Chair

Responsible for organizing food-related needs for the band. Working closely with band president to maintain budget, organizing meals for away events as well as keep snacks stocked and organized within the band program.

Uniform Chair

Responsible for overseeing everything related to the band's uniforms. This person ensures that the band members look cohesive and professional, and they handle the logistics surrounding the uniforms, from acquisition to maintenance.
