Hello,

My name is David Milligan.   I am 57 years old and have two beautiful adult children Abbi 28 yrs old and Dallas 27 yrs old.   I am also a proud grandfather times two (Reed 1 yr and Belle newly born).  And, I do have a girlfriend named Tammy.  I want to thank the School City of Whiting, the staff, the students, the community, and the  school administration for giving me an opportunity to serve as a leader.   Some history:  Prior to teaching I was an Exercise Physiologist working cardiac, pulmonary, and oncology rehabilitation.   My previous career developed an internal drive in me to teach young people the benefits of exercise and its importance in avoiding disease.  Because of this internal drive, twenty four years ago, I began my career as an educator and a coach.  I earned my teacher license and began my new career as a Physical Education/Health teacher for Union Township, Hobart, then finally, the Duneland School Corporation.  I spent just over 20 years working for Duneland.  A majority of my career, while at Duneland, I taught,  coached, and worked on my administrative license.  Fifteen of those years, and in addition to teaching, I worked as the Substance Abuse Prevention and Awareness Coordinator K-12.   Addiction Education K-12 and Community Outreach were a large part of my work and focus while at Duneland.   I have two Master level degrees (Master of Science & Master of Education).  I have ran 10 Chicago Marathons and the Boston Marathon.  And finally, at one point I owned my own pizza restaurant and currently own my own salsa company.   Since arriving in Whiting, I have really felt accepted by the  staff, students, and the community.  I appreciate the opportunity to serve the School City of Whiting.  My goals have not changed.  I want to continue to educate young people to choose high quality education pathways,  and assist them in becoming responsible citizens, lifelong learners, and value differences.   Again, thank you to the School City of Whiting, students, parents/guardians,  staff, and community for this opportunity to be and administrative leader for your community.
