Bievenidos a la clase de la Señora Saavedra
Hello and welcome back to school!
I am very excited to continue this year teaching and educating you. This year, I am prepared to have an exciting year with you all! Going on my 4th year here at Whiting, I cannot wait to continue providing you with the power of a new language such as Spanish. Together, we should thrive this year!
As we enter this year, let us prepare for the new class expectations!
Be Brave and Kind: In Spanish class you’ll need to take risks and try things that may push you out of your “comfort zone”. Be Brave! Everyone else in our class is working hard and taking risks also. Be kind!
Join the party! / Play the game!- Spanish class is not a spectator sport, and there will be no watching from the sidelines! We will answer questions, play Blookets, quizzes, work in groups, etc…-it’s important everyone participates. Join the party!
Support the flow of Spanish-It’s important that you don’t “crash the party” by speaking out of turn or interrupting me, having side conversations or distracting/disrupting the class.
Listen with the intent to understand-You acquire Spanish when you are receiving “Comprehensible Input”—in other words, listening to (or reading) Spanish that you understand. If you are listening and you don’t understand what’s going on, you’re not learning anything. Therefore, if you don’t understand you must………..
Signal when I am unclear! During each lesson there will be vocabulary/expressions/structures we are acquiring, and there will be a LOT of repetition to make sure we get it. If I say something that is unclear, please signal me! I will say it again slower, write the word and its translation on the board, or clarify. You HAVE to understand what I am saying! You cannot learn what you can’t understand! One of the first things we will learn is how to let me know in Spanish if you need me to slow down, clarify, or repeat. It is my number one priority that you understand, so help me out by signaling me! Also, help out your classmates. If you see someone signal for clarification, make the signal too—we’re in this together!
As we begin this new year, please allow yourselves time to be kind to yourself. To never doubt yourself. To believe in yourself. To trust that you can do it!
" Nadie es como tú, y ese es tú poder."
No one is like you and that is your power.
