The Southern Valley League is comprised of competitive athletic teams from the following neighboring schools:
Occasionally, games will be held at a location other than the home team's school site. This will always be noted in the game details on the athletic calendar.
Coaches make every effort to keep as many dedicated athletes on the team as possible and make very few cuts, if any. The purpose of our athletic programming is to create a positive and competitive culture while fostering athlete growth and development. For applicable teams, athletes are placed on A, B, or C teams depending upon the discretion of the coaching staff. Team placement corresponds only with skill, not grade level.
Most likely, yes. In some instances (end-of-season tournament, non-league games, etc.) only A-team athletes will travel.
All away game buses return athletes to CTMS at the conclusion of the competition with the exception of cross country, wrestling, and track and field (these sports return athletes to Rio Rico High School). Return times vary greatly depending upon the sport and location of the event, so athletes are encouraged to contact parents on the bus on the way home either from a personal cell phone or a coach's cell phone in order to communicate an approximate return time. Coaches will also communicate this information as accurately as possible to parents before departing for the event. Please arrive promptly to pick up your athlete after away games; return times can be late and all athletes and coaches are exhausted!
Most practices take place at CTMS with the exception of cross country, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track and field. For sports with an A, B, and C team, it is typical for A teams to practice before school and for B and C teams to share the gym after school. Every practice is absolutely mandatory and when an athlete plans to be absent, it is his/her responsibility to notify coaching staff in a timely manner. Poor practice attendance WILL affect your athlete's playing time in competitions.
Game buses DO NOT stop for food on the way home, with some rare exceptions. We prefer to get athletes home as soon as possible. Please plan ahead with your athlete and prepare a healthy snack for their trip. Additionally, some coaching staff will organize volunteers to feed teams on game days. Please contact your coaching staff directly with questions, suggestions, or to volunteer.
A specified amount of playing time is not guaranteed and up to the discretion of the coaching staff. However, every rostered, dressed, and eligible athlete will see some playing time in every game.
Please see the protocol and procedures under the eligibility tab. Our athletes are students first; if an athlete earns a week of ineligibility, they will serve that entire week. Parents should contact the athletic director (not teaching or coaching staff) with concerns about grades or eligibility.
Right here! Your coaching staff will also provide a hard copy of the season schedule at the pre-season parent meeting. Sometimes the schedule must be adjusted, so the Google Calendar is the most accurate place to find detailed athletic event information.
Equipment needs vary from sport to sport, but CTMS puts forth every effort to provide the majority of what is needed for every athlete to be able to participate. Please contact your coaching staff for sport-specific equipment needs.
