Mike Hazlett was a former head baseball coach and athletic director at Wilcox. Unfortunately, Mike passed away in February 2003. We have renamed this prestigious tournament in his name to help honor his life. Mike Hazlett was born on Catalina Island and was a Santa Clara County resident for 34 years. Before moving to Santa Clara, he attended schools in Sylmar and graduated from Pasadena College (now Point Loma College in San Diego) in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History, where he also earned honorable mention All-American honors in basketball and baseball. He was married to Sandy Ferris August 29, 1967. They moved to Santa Clara County in 1970, where he taught at Patrick Henry Jr. High, Peterson High School and Wilcox High School. During his time at these schools, he coached baseball, football and wrestling. Mike spent 17 years at Wilcox as the athletic director, baseball coach and physical education teacher.
