About: We have an exciting new library event coming up in February! We welcome all students to participate in Battle of the Books. For every three books read from our Young Reader Medal Award List, students will unlock our treasure chest and earn a prize and a raffle ticket. Battle of the Books will run through early March, when participants will vote for their favorite book. At the end of the battle, we will draw 10 lucky winners to receive a copy of Cabrillo’s #1 pick.
How to Participate: Read any three books from the Young Reader Medal Award List and unlock a prize from our treasure chest! You'll also receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a copy of Cabrillo's top pick from the Battle of the Books Contest!
Placing a Hold/Request: Use Destiny Discover or see us in the library! Book holds can only be honored for one school day due to the high volume of requests!

Ready. Set. Read on!
Teen Read Week is a national initiative supported by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) to encourage teens to “read for the fun of it.” In Santa Clara Unified School District, our school libraries join in by offering themed book displays, fun reading-related activities, and engaging talks — all designed to spark joy and connection through reading.
At SCUSD, Teen Read Week is an opportunity to bring students together in a relaxed, judgment-free zone — where they can discover books that reflect their interests, explore new genres, and share their excitement with friends. By highlighting reading as a social and joyful experience, we help foster a lifelong love of literacy across grades and campuses.
To make the week even more exciting, students can participate in fun contests with the chance to win prizes. Activities might include book trivia challenges, “guess the staff member’s favorite book” games, bookmark design contests, or short book review raffles. Prizes range from gift cards to brand new bikes donated by Santa Clara Schools Foundation (SCSF).
