WELCOME BACK! Let's start the year off strong and remember...
Student Support Center staff are highly trained and experienced in mental health, community and youth development, social work and education. We use a healing-centered approach and are passionate about the wellbeing of each student on campus. We believe in our students and encourage them to speak their truth, be their genuine selves, and access supports when they feel ready to do so. We also believe in their resilience and ability to overcome adversity.
SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER | Pronouns - She/Her
Hi! I'm Ms. Michelle. I provide social, emotional, and mental health support to help students build the skills they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom. My role is to help students manage emotions, develop healthy relationships, strengthen problem-solving skills, and navigate life's challenges. Most importantly, I strive to create a safe, welcoming environment where every student feels heard, supported, and valued. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is working directly with students.
I am excited to begin my first year as Umoja's School Social Worker! Before joining Umoja, I spent five years as the Student Support Center Coordinator at John Still TK-8. I have worked as a social worker since 2011 and have been serving students in school settings since 2021. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) high school graduate, I understand the unique opportunities and challenges of an IB education. I look forward to supporting Umoja students this upcoming school year.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching football, and listening to music. I can't wait to meet each of you and become part of the Umoja community. Please don't hesitate to say hello or reach out if you ever need support. I look forward to working together.
