Messages from Coach Moreno

Coach Moreno's Message for the week of October 11th

Sutter XC athletes and parents,

Happy Sunday everyone. I apologize up front for the long email, this one is loaded with detail.

Our primary focus this week will be to continue to build up for the last SRA race, the PR Palooza, and the City Championship race at Rosemont HS on October 29. I want to highlight that these are the races we have been working for. Middle school XC runners train for October. I'm extremely proud of our athletes whose training has been consistent throughout the fall, particularly when we consider the adversities that have challenged our training environment, such as the heat, fire smoke, wearing masks, and of course returning to campus and regular training after 18 months of being away and at home. This has not been an easy season for our student-athletes. Despite these adversities, our Sutter Miners have embraced the grind with wonderful grit, patience, and fine character. They get these values from their families. Keep up the great work everyone. Our community continually grows with your ambition to protect our learning environment.

High school XC runners train for November. The goal for HS runners is to do well enough at sub-sections to reach the section championship race (Willow Hill Reservoir) and then on to the State Meet in Clovis. For many of our Sutter alumni, this is an important stretch in their season, and this is where our current Sutter Miners will be in the coming years. It is my intent to build our kiddos to be confident enough to welcome the thought of continuing their running careers on into high school. This includes every runner on our roster...

Now on to this week...

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday Practice: 3pm - 4pm

Note: Mileage at practice this week for all athletes is expected to be 6 - 9 miles, not including individual runs on your own.

Thursday and Friday: On your own, minimum 1 mile, up to 3 miles

Saturday Long Run: On your own, minimum 1 mile for novice, 2 for moderate, 3 for speedy runners. These are the minimums and all athletes should feel compelled to run 1 extra mile on this day if they feel good.

Total Mileage for individual athletes this week (Monday to Saturday):

Novice: 8 - 10 miles

Mid level: 10 - 12

Elite: 13 - 18

Please note: All training patterns should grow in linear fashion. Middle school runners should avoid increasing their mileage by more than 1 mile per week. Strides should be incorporated into every running session.

Tuesday pictures: Team t-shirts; athletes who did not receive an order packet last week should get one from Coach Moreno on Monday to take home and give to their parents.

Thats all for now folks. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and lets have a great week by starting Monday organized and prepared.

Go Miners!

Do Work!
