Mathematics

with Ms. Gaynor

Welcome to 7th Grade and Math 7/8! I look forward to getting to know you, both as a person and as a mathematician.  Regardless of your previous math experience, I hope to help you embrace the world of math through fun and hard work.

I started teaching third grade in 1999 in San Diego. Wow, that was a long time ago. You weren't even born yet! I worked at three different elementary schools before I scored a teaching job at Sutter Middle School in 2006.  The BEST part of my job, hands down, is the students. YOU! I enjoy interacting with you on a daily basis: learning, exploring, struggling, persevering, and helping one another be as successful as possible.  You, the students, are what make each day unique and enjoyable.

The most common statement said to me is, "I hate math." If this is you, my goal is to help you find a bit of joy in this area (maybe even like it!). If you like math or better yet, love it! I ask you to help me in this endeavor to show our classmates that math is not about being the first one done or knowing all the answers. Math is studying patterns, asking questions, and persevering to problem solve. All these skills and more, that you will learn in class, will help you in other areas of your life.

WE GOT THIS!👍🏼

"I think incoming 7th graders should not give up and just keep on trying. I think if they keep trying, they will get better and better at what they do. If they need help, they should definitely ask for help and not just stay quiet."  -7th Grader from 2019-2020
