Throughout the year, we will be working with the Amplify Science California program (this is the district's adopted NGSS-aligned science curriculum) as well as OpenSci Ed curriculum which is also an NGSS-aligned. The programs follow the integrative model and incorporate Earth/space science, life science, and physical science into the units. The units for both programs are phenomena based and students take on the roles of scientists and engineers to make sense of and solve real-world problems using evidence gathered over the course of the units via reading, writing, hands-on activities (some modifications may be required), digital simulations, discussions, and media. The units we will be covering this year include material about: Human Energy, Force and Motion, Magnetism, Light Waves, Astronomy, Natural Selection, and Evolutionary History. For advanced level science, we will also be completing several projects throughout the year as well as working on communicating our science ideas through writing.
