Hi! Welcome to SCSP! My name is Mrs. Kimberly Diaz. I have been the Middle School Literature teacher at SCSP for three years. I also am the moderator for our Reading Competition team. I have been actively involved within the education field for the past 30 years. Each year I look forward to engaging in compelling novels with our students.
~Our 6th graders explore ancient Egypt (The Egypt Game), and travel through the forests of Canada (Hatchet).
~Our 7th graders hang out on the streets with the gang (The Outsiders), discover the meaning of generosity in the Victorian era (The Christmas Carol), and travel through the snowy trails of Alaska with sled dogs (The Call of the Wild).
~Our 8th graders will sit in a humid courtroom in southern Alabama (To Kill A Mockingbird) and work on a ranch in California (Of Mice and Men). ALL while we remain in our classroom and READ!
Students will also access our new textbook series entitled "My Perspectives." The students will engage in many textbook activities such as:
Concept Vocabulary, Comprehension Check, Close Read the Text, Analyze the Text, Analyze Craft and Structure, Word Study, and Conventions.
Our Reading Competition team consists of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that read several novels in preparation to answer comprehension questions virtually. We compete against approximately thirty local schools annually.
