Human Trafficking: beginning in 2018-19, and each year thereafter, a school district shall make available to licensed personnel thirty (30) minutes of professional development on recognizing and reporting human trafficking
Athletic Coaches: at least once every three (3) years, training in recognition and management regarding events or conditions* that may be encountered by a student during athletic training and physical activities
Administrators: annual professional development in data disaggregation, instructional leadership and fiscal management*
School Counselors: Per Act 620 and 648, school counselors are required to receive "mental health first aid by September 1, 2024 and every four years thereafter. "
Seizure Safe Schools Act 286: There are two parts of this law that each district needs to address:
The presence of a full time school nurse shall serve as one of those required. The other person trained shall be at the choice of the district. The training for your school nurses has already occured. Your nurses should be communicating with you regarding the second person that needs to be trained and how to receive that training.
The second part of this law states: The school shall provide up to 75 minutes of training in person or online every two years for principals, guidance counselors, teachers, and other relevant school personnel with direct contact or supervision of children on recognition of the signs and symptoms of seizures and appropriate steps for seizure first aid. In other words, definitely think about all staff-bus drivers, paras, cafeteria, etc.
