Dear Middle School Students and Families, September 5, 2025
I hope you all had a special holiday weekend as we are back to school in full swing. There already has been a lot going on these past few weeks as the 7th and 8th graders have been busy. The SMS football, cheer, volleyball, and cross-country teams have been competing and working hard. Students have been in classes getting accustomed to their teams and learning what it means to be an SMS All Star! The month of September brings many events, activities and reminders as we begin the first full month of school. Please see below for important information and upcoming events.
PBIS All-Star Festival:
Your children have been not only working hard with their academics, but they have also practiced all of our Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) as they grow into teenagers. Middle School is an exciting time and students have been working hard towards the PBIS goals. Students will be able to earn points towards a special event. This is a beginning of the school year celebration will be held during the day for our students to use their PBIS points. There will be a live DJ, face painting, snacks, games, and social interaction. We look forward to a fantastic day.
Laptops & Google Hub:
All SMS students are supplied a laptop which they are responsible for. This device serves as a learning tool which enhances their learning in all of their classes. Students and parents can visit the SMS Google Hub to see all Team and Teacher pages linked to google classroom and other resources. Computers cannot come home unless there are special circumstances.
Academics and homework:
The goal at SMS is to prepare students for high school and beyond. We have a very strategic system here at SMS where we focus on student grades and GPA. Progress is checked several times a quarter and we will have extended opportunities for support. The 1st quarter midterm is on October 3rd, but if your child is struggling academically and needs further support, you will receive a letter before that time.
Student Government:
The few weeks are very exciting weeks at Sandusky Middle School. Each HomeBase will choose a HomeBase representative through an election process. Students who then are HomeBase representatives can run for team and/or class president. We look forward to our election process!
Attendance:
If your child is going to be absent, please be sure to call the attendance line – 419-984-1183.
I look forward to another exciting school year here at Sandusky Middle School and proud of all our students!
Go Blue Streaks!
Timothy Kozak, SMS Principal
