We all get stressed! Learning how to manage stress and overwhelming feelings is just part of life. Here you will find online resources to help you with calming when you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Controlling stress and overwhelming feelings is a conscious effort; when feeling stressed, take a deep breath, remember your circle of control, and try some of these ideas:
Check on yourself: Have you eaten or could you be hungry? Do you need to drink some water?
Slow, deep breathing or guided breathing
Visual relaxation: envision relaxing scenes or watch relaxing videos
Auditory relaxation: listen to soft, instrumental music or sounds of nature; NOT music with lyrics
Take a short walk. The movement gets blood and oxygen flowing and releases endorphins.
If possible, get outside and get some vitamin D. Sunshine really does make you feel better!
Stretching or yoga
Coloring or other forms of art
Laughter!
Journaling
Guided Breathing & Meditation

One of my favorite ways to relax is knitting. It diverts my focus from whatever is stressing me; instead, I focus on the rhythm of the pattern, the texture and colors of the yarn, and the sound of the needles.
When we are feeling stressed, sometimes we want to "zone out," which is fine, but try to avoid the following when zoning out:
Watching or re-watching suspenseful television shows or movies. Something lighthearted or funny is a better choice.
Listening to music with an aggressive beat or angry lyrics. Instrumental is a better choice.
Playing aggressive or violent video games.
Stress eating (eating our emotions).
All of these activities make negative emotions worse!
Taking a short walk increases blood and oxygen flow. Being outside supplies us with Vitamin D. Being outside near nature naturally calms and grounds us.
