Students will take a STAR Reading Test each 9 week grading period. From this test, each student will be given a ZPD number. The Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is the reading level range from which each student should be selecting books for optimal growth in reading. It spans reading levels that are appropriately challenging for reading practice. This range is approximate. Success at any reading level depends on your child's interest and prior knowledge of a book's content. I will be using these STAR Reading test scores to help students further develop reading skills through the selection of books for reading practice at school.
Each 9 weeks, students will receive a new AR point goal and a new ZPD. All of this information can be found on the bookmark inside your child's library book.
Students are required to bring the library book to class everyday the day. This book should be traveling home each night and students should be reading a minimum of 15 minutes at home. If you are not seeing the book come home, please let me know!
You can check the AR number and points of any book by following this link: AR BookFinder
Students will be given a test grade each nine week grading period. They must meet AT LEAST 85% accuracy on all quizzes and must meet the allotted point goal.
(note: Students can only access AR quizzes at school in the school's network. AR quizzes can not be taken at home!)
You must get 85% or better on the AR test to receive all points. Once you take the test, please record the name of the book, your grade, and the points awarded on your bookmark. I will be meeting with each of you on our assigned class library day to discuss your progress toward your AR point goal. Read every day and work toward your goal every day. Keep up with your progress and never quiz on a book that you have not finished in its entirety.
