Welcome to Chilhowie Middle School 6th grade Math class

I am looking forward to working with your student as we begin a new school year. We will not be using a traditional math book in our class this year. Everything that your student does in math class will be in the spiral notebook. Therefore they need to take care of this notebook.

Each student will need a notebook to put their notes in or to work problems. Please take care of your notebook, you will use it all year long.

Each week, I will be posting daily plans. These plans will help you to know what we are working on that week and if your student is absent they can see what we worked on that day.

Homework:  We will have homework at times.  It is not a choice to do it or not. Most of the time you will be pulled from gym to complete your work. Ten points will also be deducted from your grade.

• First nine -weeks of school we will be doing the following:

• Simplifying fraction, Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers, and Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions

• Ratios

• Fractions, Decimals, and Percent's

• Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Fractions

• Benchmark #1 Test

You will be tested after each SOL and the grade will go down 3 times.

August 25 -29, 2025

Things are looking good.  We have had our first test on Ratios and we have started working on our Fraction, Decimal, and Percent Chart.  Once we have completed the chart the students will have to write it from memory.  They are doing great!!!

September 8 - 12, 2025

We have finished our Fraction, Decimals, and Percents Chart. We tested  on it and most of the students did great. We have a few who have to retake it.

This week we will be starting adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. This will be the last unit that we do before we take our benchmark test.

September 15 - 18, 2025

This week we will be adding and subtracting Mixed Numbers. We will also be dividing and multiplying fractions and Mixed Numbers. 

Pictures for the yearbook will be taken on Thursday, September 18.

At the end of the week we will be modeling multiplying and dividing fractions.  Everyone needs to bring crayons or colored pencils to class.
