Referral for Gifted Services
Reported Referral
A student may be nominated for consideration for gifted education services by teachers, counselors, administrators, parents/guardians, peers, self, and other individuals with knowledge of the student's abilities.
All referrals must be submitted by the referral deadline (see below). If a print copy is needed, please contact the Screven County Board of Education.
Automatic Referral
The eligibility team shall review the results of system-wide norm-referenced test results to determine those students who meet locally established criteria to be automatically referred for consideration in the gifted program.
Locally established criteria include any of the following:
Performance at the 85th percentile or higher on the iReady Math or iReady Reading Diagnostic or any other national norm-reference test.
Students who are distinguished learners on the Math and/or English Language Arts GMAS will be considered for possible gifted referral.
Once the referral submission has passed, each school's eligibility team will review student data to determine if a formal evaluation for gifted services is required.
A referral submission does not guarantee a formal evaluation.
The review team must establish whether the evidence confirms the need for formal evaluation.
If the evidence confirms the need for a formal evaluation, the parents/guardians of the identified student will receive a permission form to test. Parental consent is required before testing can begin.
