The Screven County School System believes that the best education is one that is delivered in school by a teacher. However, we recognize that some families may not be comfortable sending their children to school. To accommodate those families, the Screven County School System will offer a fully online option. The deadline to apply for the SCSS Virtual Academy was August 4 at 4:00 PM. If you have completed an application for virtual school, someone will call you prior to the start of school.
The SCSS Virtual Academy will be offered for grades Pre-K through 12. Our Pre-K virtual class is now full.
The SCSS Virtual Academy is different from the digital learning that may occur during school closure.
The SCSS Virtual Academy is for families who want their children enrolled with the Screven County School System, but they do not want to send their children to the school building for in person instruction.
The SCSS Virtual Academy will follow the same school calendar and grading windows as in person instruction.
SCSS Virtual Academy students will be expected to adhere to the rules and procedures in the school handbook.
Families choosing to enroll in the SCSS Virtual Academy will need to provide their child with a computer, internet connection, and telephone. Some technology assistance may be available.
Students participating in the SCSS Virtual Academy will be required to complete state assessments (such as GKIDS, Milestones EOG & EOC, ACCESS, etc.) . At this time, the GADOE request to waive state assessments has not been approved.
Students participating in the SCSS Virtual Academy cannot participate in extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, band, chorus, etc.) during the semester they are enrolled in the Virtual Academy.
Online instruction may not be the best instructional model for some students.
Students in the SCSS Virtual Academy will be assigned to a SCSS teacher.
Instruction will be accessed through Google Classroom, Edgenuity, and other digital resources.
The SCSS teacher will monitor and provide the instruction and Edgenuity will serve as an instructional resource for delivering content.
Course work will be a combination of recorded lessons, live video sessions, and independent assignments and assessments. Live video sessions will be recorded.
Assignments will be graded and daily participation is an expectation.
Failure to regularly participate and/or to complete assignments in a timely manner may result in failing grades and could lead to retention.
Failure to regularly participate and/or to complete assignments in a timely manner may also result in the loss of the privilege of attending virtual school and being placed back in face to face instruction.

Enrollment Window for Fall Semester: July 6, 2020 to August 4, 2020 at 4:00 PM.
Once enrolled, families will have 10 days from the start of school to decide to change back to traditional, in person instruction. After the 10 days expire, the student will have to attend the SCSS Virtual School until the end of the semester. Pre-K may be an exception because of class size limits.
Note: High school students who decide to attend school for in person instruction for the Spring Semester, may have to continue their online courses at SCHS.
