Hi! I am Mrs. Sell and I am glad you have chosen to explore the Animal Systems Career Pathway at Screven County High School. In the linked pages, you will see the class information for both the Animal Science Biotechnology class and the Animal Production and Management Class as well as Mrs. Sell's Basic Agriculture Science class. Below you will learn more about our Agriculture Education model at Screven County High School. I look forward to working with you as we study more about the companion and agricultural animals in our lives.
Screven County High School offers three agriculture pathways: Agriculture Mechanics, Animal Systems and Plant Systems. In the ag classes for each pathway, you will develop agriculture skills and knowledge through classroom activities and labs that can lead you to a career in agriculture or related industries.
Agriculture Education students are expected to plan and manage a Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) program throughout their career pathway. The SAE program will be conducted outside of class time and should focus on an interest area for the student. Like plants?Grow a garden. Like animals? Raise a goat, sheep, pig or cow to show. Like working with machinery? Build a deer stand to sell. Like wildlife? Plant a food plot. The ideas are endless! For more ideas, check out SAE for All to learn more.
Agriculture Education would not be complete without participation in the National FFA Organization. Students can participate in a variety of career development events (CDE) or leadership development events to apply their agriculture knowledge and develop career and leadership skills. Love animals? Then compete on one of our Animal Science CDE teams such as Meats Evaluation, Livestock Evaluation, Dairy Evaluation, Poultry Evaluation or Horse Evaluation. See Mrs. Sell for more info or learn more from the National FFA Organization!
