MISO14 Early Bird Winner
Chris Lipe (right)
What a close finish that was! 6 players on 7 wins apiece finish in the top six positions of the MISO14 Early Bird, with less than 400 spread points setting champion apart Chris Lipe from Terry Kang in 6th, and less than a hundred from runner-up Neil Rowley and Bob Linn in third place.
Very worthy of mention and of 1st ratings prize is Emmanuel Egbele who finished 8th overall in an open field of 38 players. Two other newcomers to the tournament, Joseph Bennett and Jack Mitchell also did very well to claim 2nd and 3rd ratings prize respectively.

The plot leading to the Northern Irishman Rik Kennedy being crowned MISO14 Main Event Champion couldn't have been more different from that which saw the American Chris Lipe claim the Early Bird just three days earlier. Whilst the 1-day opener could have been won by as many as six players who finished on equal points, in the 3-day showcase event of MISO14, Kennedy and Lipe pulled away from the rest of the field with 3 rounds to go and played a de facto best-of-3-match final. The first round of this duel, which Kennedy won by a mere 3 points, signaled just how tight the contest between the two players had been up to that point. Kennedy took advantage of the psychological edge of having a match and championship point to go on to win game and title.
Another American, Wolfram Poh, did well to take third place ahead of the defending Main Event champion Mark Nyman, who finished fourth.
There was more success for North America as the American Terry Kang and the Canadian Sue Tremblay won the first and second ratings prizes respectively. The Pole Wojteck Usakiewicz took the third ratings prize.
In the B Division, the Nigerian Febisola Olanepikun showed remarkable consistency throughout the tournament to fend off a late challenge from Englishman Jack Mitchell, who won his last 9 games to clinch runner-up spot ahead of Scotsman James Wilkie in third and Nigerian Emmanuel Egbele in fourth.
The two ratings prizes in this division were an all-Irish affair as Mary Doyle and Ronan Warde took the first and second of these prizes respectively.

MISO14 Late Bird Winner
Chris Lipe (right)
After a last-ditch victory in the Early Bird and runner-up spot in the Main Event, Chris Lipe enjoyed a relatively more straightforward course as he won the 2-day 16-round event with a game to spare. Trailing Lipe was fellow American Wolfram Poh in second and Englishman Mark Nyman in third.
There were finally some honours for the home players as Anna Borg and Joe Caruana won the second and third ratings prizes, behind Teresa Lyes of England who took the first.
