Rare Adventures

Rare Adventures at the NeXus are a series of in-camp and inter-camp activities for Troops, Patrols, and individuals. They are opportunities to explore the beauty of summer in Southern, NH. Rare Adventures can be small adventures such as going on an expedition exploring the backwoods while hearing the history of Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Reservation with one of our backwoods experts from our Discovery area to going on an overnight low impact camping trip to a local peak. Adventures can be as big as spending an afternoon taking over Northwood Lake by sailing The Craig Ryder or soaking up the sun while enjoying the water park. If diving down isn’t right for you, spend the afternoon using our climbing cave and COPE course at T.L. Storer.

In-Camp Adventures

Every program area in the NeXus has the opportunity for RARE Adventures. You can create a special RARE Craft or build a unique pioneering project. You can go on a Discovery Hike to see the oldest living leaf-baring trees in North America or discover Storer’s logging camp legacy.

Inter-Camp Adventures

If you’re at Wah-Tut-Ca or Storer and you want to participate in a Rare Adventure based at the other there are opportunities to visit the other camp. Sail on Scouting’s only whaleboat on Northwood Lake, or Climb the BSA’s only Climbing Cave. You can also try mountain boarding or chalk-ball.

Staff Guided Adventures

Every day in the NeXus is an opportunity to sign up for a Staff Guided Rare Adventure. Popular trips include the Milk Crate Challenge at Storer and Cove Exploration at Wah-Tut-Ca.

Patrol Guided Adventures

With your own Troop leadership you and your Troop can plan and participate in a unique “Rare Adventure”. Climb local mountains! Bike through the NeXus! Go on an afternoon or overnight canoeing expedition on the Suncook River. You can climb Parker Mountain and visit the mica mines or climb Saddleback Mountain to the Nature Observatory. The NeXus staff will provision your unit with food, equipment and maps.
