Safety

At any Scout activity, we always make sure to keep ourselves and our friends safe. JOTA-JOTI is the same.

Before jumping online, carefully read the online safety page of the JOTA-JOTI website. It includes helpful tips, useful videos, and an online course you can complete to earn a certificate. Remember to never share personal or identifying information with people you don’t know online, including your email address or links to your social media accounts.

Participants under 13 years of age should always have an appropriate adult with them while participants over 13 years of should ensure their parent/guardian is fully aware of what they are doing.

The Safe JOTI Pledge

I will…

  • inform and involve an adult in my JOTI experience

  • behave like a Scout, following the Promise and Law

  • report any hurtful or suspicious activity I experience or witness to safejotajoti@scout.org

  • be respectful and friendly with those I meet online

  • keep my passwords and personal information private

  • never participate in or promote hurtful speech, including hate, humiliation or judgment of others

  • have fun and meet new Scout friends!

If you need help or feel unsafe during JOTA-JOTI

  1. First, tell a trusted adult about your concern, such as a parent, guardian, or Scout Leader.

  2. Email safejotajoti@scout.org with your name, the platform it happened on, what happened, the name of the account which worries you, and a screenshot of the incident.

  3. A moderator will answer your email within 30 minutes or less.

Trusted Partners Programme

The World JOTA-JOTI team gives several online services Trusted Partner status in recognition for their dedication to the safety of members during JOTA-JOTI. While many different websites will be active during the weekend, Scouts ACT recommends that you only use official Trusted Partner websites.
