In class: We reviewed Unit 6 of LGR in preparation for tomorrow's test. We then discussed the fantastical elements of Ch. 7, which had been the previous night's homework, before moving onto reading and discussing Ch. 8 of The Wind in the Willows. We did not finish reading the chapter, but it is not homework - we will finish reading it in class tomorrow.

In class: To be better aligned with the other 6th grade classes, we pushed our grammar test back to tomorrow. We reviewed for the test again briefly and then spent the majority of class reading and discussing Ch. 1 of The Wind in the Willows.

Wednesday, September 23 HALF-DAY SCHEDULE:
In class: The class completed their second grammar test of the year. Once completed, they were instructed to get a head start on their homework.
Homework: Finish reading Ch. 1 of The Wind in the Willows and write a short summary (3-5 sentences) as well as your first impressions of the characters, Mole and Rat.

In class: The class began taking notes on the next chapter of grammar - today was prepositions/prepositional phrases and sensory linking verbs.

In class: The class had their first seminar of the year. We then began preparing for the Shane essay, which we will work on for the rest of the week in class.

Wednesday, September 16:
In class: The class finished up Lesson to Learn B and began working on Lesson to Learn C, which always serves as a study guide/practice test of sorts for the chapter's test. The class also began to work on the SPA (Statement/Proof/Analysis) Organizer, which is a graphic organizer that serves as the rough draft template for the class's essays - we will continue to work on it tomorrow and turn it into the essay's final draft by Friday.

Thursday, September 17:
In class: The class reviewed LGR in preparation for tomorrow's test. We then spent the rest of class working on completing the SPA Organizer (rough draft).

In class: The class completed the Unit 4 LGR test and then continued working on their final draft.

In class: The class finished reading and discussing Shane Ch. 15-16. Though we have now finished the book, we will still require it next week for a seminar and an essay. We also began working on Lesson to Learn B, which introduced subject complements.

In class: The class discussed the adage "You reap what you sow" and began to review classroom expectations. We also reviewed the class syllabus (see HW).

In class: We took an open-note quiz on the syllabus and continued discussing classroom expectations. We also set up our grammar binders - it is vital that the students have a dedicated binder for grammar instruction; we will begin taking notes in it next week.

Monday, August 10:
In class: The class set academic goals for the semester. We then distributed the vocabulary books (LGR, which stands for Latin and Greek Roots) and went over Unit 1. Previewing the LGR words will be a weekly occurrence on Monday. The students have until Thursday to complete the unit's exercises at which point I grade them and we review the exercises as a class in preparation for Friday's test. I explained to the class that the LGR words are cumulative. Additional class time was spent discussing what we know about westerns in preparation for reading Shane tomorrow.

In class: We took notes on the 4 Kinds of Sentences and established how our grammar binders will be used moving forward. We began to read and discuss Ch. 1 of Shane.
