AT HOME:
Put time and thought into homework (using wordreference.com to look up conjugations and vocabulary when necessary).
Do a little extra daily memorization (5 minutes does wonders).
Spend a few minutes daily on Duolingo (free online learning game).
Regularly review past material and errors.
Practice difficult verb tenses with conjugation exercises on conjuguemos.com.
Do an intercambio linguístico (teaching and learning with a peer native speaker).
Listen to Spanish music, audiobooks, or podcasts; watch Spanish videos, films, and television shows (or even just switch to Spanish audio & subtitles on your favorites). A list of possibilities is available in the reference section of our course website.
Get a private tutor.
AT SCHOOL:
Speak exclusively and audibly in Spanish from the time you enter to the time you exit the classroom.
If struggling, use circumlocution and hand-gestures to make yourself understood.
Volunteer during class-wide exercises.
Ask questions early and often!
Diligently work on given exercises for allotted time, and make an effort to practice the most complex grammar and vocabulary possible.
Find ways to engage emotionally and intellectually, and to have fun in class—joke around (when appropriate), talk about your interests, and get to know the people around you.
