Mrs. Makayla Jaramillo
This is my fifth year as an English teacher, and it is my fourth year as an English teacher at Twin Springs High School. I currently teach English 8 and direct the theater team and coach forensics. In case you are wondering, my last name is pronounced ha-ra-me-yo, but you can call me Mrs. J! I'm excited to for this year whether it be with my students in the classroom or online.
Remote Learning Information:
I graduated as Historian from Twin Springs High School in 2012. While in high school, I was involved in FCA, FCCLA, was an AIM Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in basketball. In the fall of 2012, I attended The University of Virginia's College at Wise where I majored in English and minored in Secondary Education. I was a member of the Darden Society, English Honor Society, and worked as an English and a Spanish tutor for Student Support Services. In the spring of 2016, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Arts in English.
After graduating from college, I received a job as an English teacher in Smyth County Public Schools. I taught there for one year, and I was then offered a position as an English teacher at my alma mater, Twin Springs High School. I am overwhelmed with joy to shout those words, "Go Big Red!"
I met my husband at Twin Springs High School before we both graduated. On June 24, 2017, I became his wife after 6 years of dating. He is also a teacher at Twin Springs. In March 2019, we welcome a baby girl in this world named Emmalyne. She is the light of our lives!
I love to craft and read. There are too many books in the world for me to pick a favorite, but I do love to read a good love story. I also like action and science fiction novels. My favorite movie is Grease, and I enjoy listening to music in Spanish. I also really love to travel and explore new places. This picture was taken in Queretaro City in Mexico.
