TO ALL GATE CITY STUDENTS: If due to a class schedule conflict you were unable to continue to participate in the Gate City Band program and you would like to get back into the Gate City Band program.  Please note that you are able to do exactly that and re-enter the Gate City Band program.  We will welcome you back enthusiastically into the Band program...

GATE CITY HIGH SCHOOL SYMPHONIC BAND (SPRING OF 2027):  

CLASS SYLLABUS: Students will continue in the learning of their instrument by learning and reviewing all twelve major scales (as per the senior all district requirements) and relative minor scales.  Students will also will be reviewing more advanced rhythmic patterns and playing as an ensemble.  At the end of the semester they will perform for the public (or virtual) to show their accomplishment.  

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Monday August 17, 2026 (8:00am).  Welcome Back!!!!!!!

      CHAPERONES INFORMATION:  Looking for chaperones for band trips (High School Symphonic Band).  If you are a parent or guardian of any of these students please contact Mr. Lake or Mr. Fleming at the above office number or their school e-mail to let them know you are interested in being a band chaperone for future band trips.  Back ground checks must be done on all chaperones.  Please contact the Scott County Sheriff's Department to start the process.  Let them know you are wanting to chaperone for the Gate City High School Band Program.  Back ground checks take about 2 months to get final results.  If you are employed by Scott County School Systems a back ground check is already completed on you.        Thank you.

MARCHING BAND PICTURE: Tuesday August 18, 2026 (during band class).  We will have our group marching band picture taken.  Dress: marching band shirt (which you have or have picked up during band camp) and blue jeans (no holes please).

#1 FOOTBALL GAME: GATE CITY VS RICHLANDS (HOME) Thursday August 27, 2026 at 7:00pm.  Band room will open at 5:30pm.  Dress: full uniform or blue jeans with no holes and the band shirt with black shoes and socks (will be decided in class the week of the game).  Game should be over by 9:00pm barring any game delays or unforeseen problems.

#2 FOOTBALL GAME: GATE CITY VS DOBYNS-BENNETT (HOME) Friday September 4, 2026 at 7:00pm.  Band room will open at 5:30pm.  Dress: full uniform or blue jeans with no holes and the band shirt with black shoes and socks (will be decided in class the week of the game).  Game should be over by 9:00pm barring any game delays or unforeseen problems.

DUFFIELD DAZE PARADE: Saturday September 5, 2026 starting at 10:00am.  Band room will open at 8:30am.  Will depart for the parade at 9:15am.  We will be playing one of our field show pieces (will post closer to this performance).  Dress: Blue jeans (no holes) and the band shirt with black shoes and socks.  Should be back to the Gate City High School Band room by 12:00pm barring any delays or unforeseen problems.

A letter has been sent home with your marching band student on the week of instrumental sectionals which were the week of Monday July 27, 2026.  This letter listed all of the home games to possibly work concessions.

WINTER CONCERT: Sunday December 6, 2026 at 2:00pm in the High School gym.  Report time 2:00pm (8th grade concert band performs at 2:00pm).  Marching Band will perform at 2:45pm.  Dress: Ugly Chrismas Sweaters and dark pants (Blue Jeans are fine, but NO HOLES).

8TH GRADE CONCERT BAND (FALL OF 2026):

WINTER CONCERT: Sunday December 6, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Gate City High School Gym.  Report time is 1:30pm in the high school band room.  Dress: Nice clothes (you may wear blue jeans just NO HOLES, No logos across shirts front or back, over the right or left chest is fine).  Gate City Marching Band will perform after us.

EXTRA CREDIT: Practice schedule.  FALL OF 2026

 Please check the class stream for the week of the practice schedule.  WILL START IN SEPTEMBER OF 2026...

150 minutes or 2 and a half hours per week.  Will receive 10 points each week that the practice schedule is turned in....

BEGINNING BAND 2026-2027: (7th grade):

CLASS SYLLABUS: Students will try out different instruments to decide which one they would like to play.  After that we will learn the basics of note reading and playing their instrument.  At the end of the year they  will perform for the public (or virtual) to show their accomplishment.   

EQUIPMENT FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIED INSTRUMENTS: BEFORE GETTING ANY INSTRUMENT OR ANY BOOKS OR EQUIPMENT, YOU MUST LOCK IN YOUR INSTRUMENTAL CHOICE WITH MR. FLEMING FACE TO FACE.  HE WILL WRITE IT DOWN IN HIS BAND NOTEBOOK.  ONCE THAT IS DONE, YOU MAY PROCEED WITH ACQUIRING THE NEEDED MATERIALS.

Oboe and Bassoon: Jones medium soft reed (say which instrument)

Bass Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone mouthpiece: Plastic beginning Mouthpiece kit (say which instrument).  A mouthpiece kit comes with mouthpiece, ligature, and mouthpiece cap.  Plus ask for two Rico 2 and a half reeds (say which instrument).  Saxophones will need a saxophone neck strap or a saxophone harness (usually Baritone Saxophones are the only ones that need a saxophone harness). 

French Horn mouthpiece: "any maker" (Bach, Blessing, Olds, etc.) size 11.

Baritone mouthpiece: "any maker" (Bach, Blessing, Olds, etc.) size 6 and a half AL.

Tuba mouthpiece: "any maker" (Bach, Blessing, Olds, etc.) size 24 AW.

THESE MATERIALS MENTIONED ABOVE SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO CLASS ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2026.

BEGINNING BAND BOOKS: Please bring both beginning band books (Ed Sueta book 1 and Essential Elements book 1) to band class.  Make sure your name is in the books...  PLEASE BRING MATERIALS TO CLASS STARTING MONDAY SEPTEMBER 21, 2026.  (Ed Sueta Book 1 will be used first so make sure that you have it...)  (Essential Elements book 1 practice schedule will start being used on Monday September 21, 2026.  Will not need this book for class use till late October or early November, depending on each classes progress in Ed Sueta book 1) 

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Monday August 17, 2026 (8:00am).  7th graders you got your class schedule at the open house last week.  If you did not attend the open house you will need to go by the middle school office to get your class schedule.  Welcome Back!!!!!!!

BEGINNING BAND PARENT MEETING: Monday August 31, 2026 at 6:00pm in the Gate City High School band room.  A letter will be sent home with your beginning band student by Friday August 21, 2026 which will have more details about this meeting and the beginning band program here at Gate City Middle School.
