This site will answer some questions you may have about the scheduling for the different bands (Beginning Band, 8th Grade Concert Band, Gate City High School Marching Band, and the Gate City High School Symphonic Band) and how to contact us directly. GATE CITY HIGH SCHOOL SYMPHONIC BAND (SPRING OF 2026):
CLASS SYLLABUS: Students will continue in the learning of their instrument by learning and reviewing all twelve major scales (as per the senior all district requirements) and relative minor scales. Students will also will be reviewing more advanced rhythmic patterns and playing as an ensemble. At the end of the semester they will perform for the public (or virtual) to show their accomplishment.
CHAPERONES INFORMATION: Looking for chaperones for band trips (High School Symphonic Band). If you are a parent or guardian of any of these students please contact Mr. Lake or Mr. Fleming at the above office number or their school e-mail to let them know you are interested in being a band chaperone for future band trips. Back ground checks must be done on all chaperones. Please contact the Scott County Sheriff's Department to start the process. Let them know you are wanting to chaperone for the Gate City High School Band Program. Back ground checks take about 2 months to get final results. If you are employed by Scott County School Systems a back ground check is already completed on you. Thank you.

ALL COUNTY BAND REHEARSAL: Friday April 17, 2026 in the Gate City High School Band Room. Starting at 9:00am to 2:00pm (lunch will be provided).
FINE ARTS EXTRAVAGANZA: Sunday April 19, 2026 in the Gate City Middle School Gym and Cafeteria. Concert starts at 2:00pm. Report time for the High School band students will be at 2:00pm in the Gate City High School Band Room. Concert Dress: For Gate City High School band students (Mr. Lake will announce that closer to this date). Other schools your band director will inform you.

GATE CITY VS DOBYNS BENNETT (AWAY): Friday September 5, 2025. Band room will open at 5:00pm. We will leave for Dobyns Bennett HS at 5:30pm. Game starts at 7:00pm. Dress: Band T-Shirt, Blue Jeans (no holes), and black socks and black tennis shoes. We should arrive back at the Gate City HS band room around 10:30pm barring any game delays or problems.
WINTER CONCERT: Sunday December 14, 2025 at 2:00pm in the Gate City High School Gym. Report time for marching band is 2:00pm in the high school band room. Dress: Will be discussed in class and posted closer to this date...
FOOTBALL CONCESSION STAND 2025 WORKERS:
A letter will be sent home with all of the home games listed with your marching band student on the first day of instrumental sectionals in July 2025. Please sign up for the home game or games that you would like to work and return to the high school band room as soon as possible (first come, first serve). Each home game that you work, your marching band student will receive $25.00 per game worked. Report time for concession stand workers is 5:30pm... As of this date (9/1/2025) we need 1 worker for the October 31 game with Wise Central. All other games are full. The 2025 football season is posted below...

BEGINNING BAND 2025-2026: (7th grade):
CLASS SYLLABUS: Students will try out different instruments to decide which one they would like to play. After that we will learn the basics of note reading and playing their instrument. At the end of the year they will perform for the public (or virtual) to show their accomplishment.
BEGINNING BAND PARENT'S MEETING: (COMPLETED) Monday August 25, 2025 at the Gate City High School band room. Time; 6:00pm. (A letter with more information about this meeting has been sent home with your beginning band student on Monday August 18, 2025).
EQUIPMENT FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIED INSTRUMENTS: BEFORE GETTING ANY INSTRUMENT OR ANY BOOKS OR EQUIPMENT, YOU MUST LOCK IN YOUR INSTRUMENTAL CHOICE WITH MR. FLEMING FACE TO FACE. HE WILL WRITE IT DOWN IN HIS BAND NOTEBOOK. ONCE THAT IS DONE, YOU MAY PROCEED WITH ACQUIRING THE NEEDED MATERIALS.
Oboe and Bassoon: Jones medium soft reed (say which instrument)
Bass Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone mouthpiece: Plastic beginning Mouthpiece kit (say which instrument). A mouthpiece kit comes with mouthpiece, ligature, and mouthpiece cap. Plus ask for two Rico 2 and a half reeds (say which instrument). Saxophones will need a saxophone neck strap or a saxophone harness (usually Baritone Saxophones are the only ones that need a saxophone harness).
French Horn mouthpiece: "any maker" (Bach, Blessing, Olds, etc.) size 11.
Baritone mouthpiece: "any maker" (Bach, Blessing, Olds, etc.) size 6 and a half AL.
Tuba mouthpiece: "any maker" (Bach, Blessing, Olds, etc.) size 24 AW.
THESE MATERIALS MENTIONED ABOVE SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO CLASS ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2025.
BEGINNING BAND BOOKS: Please bring both beginning band books (Ed Sueta book 1 and Essential Elements book 1) to band class. Make sure your name is in the books... PLEASE BRING MATERIALS TO CLASS STARTING MONDAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2025. (Ed Sueta Book 1 will be used first so make sure that you have it...) (Essential Elements book 1 practice schedule will start being used on Monday September 22, 2025. Will not need this book for class use till late October or early November, depending on each classes progress in Ed Sueta book 1)
