Coach Dagostino started his coaching career during the 1979-80 season as the junior varsity coach at Poultney High School in Vermont. Over four decades, Coach Dags has been an assistant coach at Schenectady County Community College, varsity coach at Duanesburg High School, coached on the CYO, CDYBL, and AAU levels, was the freshmen coach and assistant varsity coach at Guilderland High School while both his sons were playing, and then the varsity coach at his alma mater, Mohonasen High School.
In August 2014 Coach Dags was named the varsity coach at Colonie, where his wife Anna is an alumni. In the 5 years since, Colonie has won the Suburban Council in 2018 and played in four Elite Eight and two Class AA Championship games. Coach Dags was also named the Suburban Council Coach of the Year in 2017.
From 2005-2014 at Mohonasen, Coach Dags and his staff rebuilt the Warrior program from nine consecutive previous losing seasons and without a sectional title since 1992, into a yearly contender in both the Suburban Council and Class A. Known as a defensively proud program, Mohon won four Kirvin Cup titles, and were Suburban Council Divisional Co-Champions twice. In Sectional play, they participated in eight Elite Eight and four Final Four games. In 2011, Mohonasen won the Class A Sectionals, and Coach Dags was selected the WNYT Channel 13 and Times Union Coach of the Year.
Coach Dags resides in Guilderland with his wife Anna. They have two sons, Ken (Christine) and Steven (Colleen) and five grandchildren, Olivia, Kenny 4th, Luciana, Madalena, and Steven Jr.
Coach Peer
Coach Peer has been coaching in the Colonie Basketball Program since 2013. He has coached at the Varsity, JV, and Freshman level. He has been a Varsity Assistant coach since 2018. In addition to coaching basketball at Colonie, Coach Peer has been involved in the football program as the JV and Modified Defensive Coordinator since 2013. Lastly, Coach Peer works with Colonie's Unified Basketball Program. This program provides opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in interscholastic sports along with the help of the Special Olympics.
Coach Peer graduated from Colonie High School in 2009 where he was a varsity captain in both Basketball and Football. He was a Suburban Council and Times Union All-Star in both sports as a senior. Coach Peer went on to play Division 3 basketball at Hobart College where he was a member of two of the three winningest seasons in school history. At Hobart, Coach Peer ranks 3rd all-time in games played and in the top 20 in Offensive & Defensive Rebounding, Total Rebounds, and Blocked Shots. Coach Peer teaches Special Education at Colonie High School. He graduated from Hobart in 2013 with a B.A. in History and his M.S. Ed. in Special Education and Social Studies from The College of Saint Rose. Coach Peer lives in Albany with his wife Lydia.
Coach Smith
Coach Smith has been coaching in the Colonie Basketball Program since 2018. Prior to coaching at Colonie Coach Smith spent two years as the head coach at Columbia Greene Community College. During his time there Coach Smith led the Twins to their first playoff berth in over 10 years. Coach Smith also spent time as the head assistant coach at Hudson Valley Community College for both the men’s and women’s program. He worked with, Head Men’s Coach Ken Dagastino (Coach Dag’s Son) and Head Women’s Coach Gabe Doemel. He led the Vikings to 3 20+ win seasons and earned Mountain Valley and Regional Coaching Staff of the Year. He also has experience at the High School level where he spent time at Ichabod Crane and Catskill school districts. Coach Smith has coached Varsity Basketball, Varsity Golf, Soccer, and Baseball.
Coach Smith currently teaches Physical Education at the Catskill Central School District. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Physical Education with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education from SUNY Brockport. Coach Smith attended Notre Dame High School in the Utica area where he was a point guard for one of the most elite High School basketball programs in the state. He lives with his wife Katti, his son Parker, and daughter Kempton in the Colonie School District.
Coach Tucker
Coach Tucker has been a member of the high school coaching staff since 2017. He has also coached within our CDYBL program since 2015. Prior to coaching at Colonie, Coach Tuck spent 5 years coaching JV basketball at Albany high, as well as, time as the varsity assistant at Albany Charter School for Girls. He has also coached AAU basketball for the Albany City Rocks since 1995. Coach Tuck has been a certified high school basketball official since 2003. He currently works at Colonie High School. Coach Tucker has two children, his son is a member of the US Air Force and his daughter attends college in South Florida.
Coach Gentile
Coach Gentile has been a member of the Colonie coaching staff since 2019. Coach Gentile is a graduate from the College of Brockport and is a certified Physical Education teacher. He is currently a building substitute at the high school and in 2019-2020 taught PE at Shaker Road Elementary. Prior to his time at Colonie Coach Gentile worked as the Freshman basketball Coach in Burnt-Hills and was a modified basketball coach out in Rochester NY. Coach Gentile played High School basketball at Ballston Spa.
Coach Eric Obermayer has been around the game of basketball for over thirty years. Since 2009, he has coached the boys modified basketball team and for years before that, he spent some time coaching St. Clare’s CYO and other AAU teams. Coach Obermayer is currently a 7th grade social studies teacher at Lisha Kill. He resides in Colonie with his wife Kristen and three year old son John.
Coach Moak has been coaching the boys modified basketball team with Coach Obermayer since 2012. He has been a 4th grade teacher at Shaker Road Elementary School here in the South Colonie CSD since 2001. Before he coached basketball, he coached Boys Modified Soccer for 5 years and Boys Modified Baseball for 2 years. He began his basketball coaching career by working as a Varsity assistant for the Schenectady Boys Basketball program for 4 years before coming to Colonie. He was a Varsity Basketball and Baseball player for his hometown, Niskayuna HS growing up. Coach Moak grew up locally, splitting time between Lisha Kill MS and Niskayuna HS, before attending Plattsburgh State University to study Childhood Education. He currently resides in Burnt Hills, where he enjoys coaching his 10 year old son's Lacrosse and Basketball teams, as well as cheering on his 7 year old daughter in dance.
