Our Spongy School GLOBE Observer Science Project NBS to flooding.
Our Classes take turns to go litter picking in the school yard and even on the road outside. In one 500 metre stretch of road we found over 3 black bags worth of rubbish, most of it could have been recycled!
The WORST we find are
PLASTIC DRINKS BOTTLES!
BAGS WITH DOG POO IN THEM!
ALCOHOL containers!
It is very important to save energy. This year we are going for Green Flag number 7.
Turn off the lights.
Turn off switches when not in use.
Save energy at home.
Install Energy Saving lightbulbs.
Your energy choices have an effect on the world & it is safe to turn on the lights at night but then turn them off.
Wasting energy is contributing to Climate Change.
Most electricity is made by burning fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal.
Wildfires, floods, droughts are all caused by increases in the temperature.
To save energy in school use less electricity.
Use less power!
Only boil enough water that you need in the kettle.
Only buy items with a triple A energy rating.
Switch to electric cars.
Climate change can cause terrible problems for nature.
Plastic is a problem for our oceans. Make sure to reduce use of plastic. Recycle or dispose of it correctly.
Every day each class sorts and bring their recycling to the wheelie bins. We check to see if they have recycled it properly. We set up a safe passage with cones to the bins. We make an announcement to say we are ready to sort.
We are helping and we think it is working. Each class has gotten better at sorting their waste. Every day we have to take out less and less of the wrong items.
The worst items are the dirty yogurt cartons, food, soft plastic wrappers.
In the staff room there was a LEMON in the recycling.
Wash them first!
Check them but they are not usually recycled.
Take them away and reuse the bags!
