South County Frequency List:
This is a listing of the standard South Santa Clara County amateur radio frequencies used by the ARES/RACES team. The first 54 channels should be programmed into your radio. The channels starting at 55 and higher are City and County frequencies used in the rest of Santa Clara County, San Benito County, and several Cal Fire which are useful to have if your radio has a larger channel capacity. The EOC radios in Morgan Hill are programmed with the extended group of channels.
Radio Programming:
Although everyone should learn how to manually program their radio, the easiest way to program is to use radio programming software provided by the manufacturer , RT Systems, or CHIRP. CHIRP is free, RT Systems is the most capable, and many team members have this software and will happily program your radio for you. RT Systems costs $25 per radio model, plus $25 for the proper programming cable.
