Dear Parents and Guardians,
We care, support, and pray for your children and your families during these uncertain times. We want to help your child to be closer to God and stay learning from home. Thank you for your effort and willingness to engage in this new process for all of us.
To maintain continuity in your child's grade level lessons and strengthen their faith, we have listed below the resources for each grade level. We understand that all our families are juggling multiple responsibilities in uncertain times. We ask that your children complete their assignments within your family's own flexibility. The intention of these assignments is to stay on track next year for your children's Sacramental Preparation and Religious Education with minimal re-teaching previous grade-level subjects (ex: teaching last section of Grade 7 in 8th grade).
You are invited to use this collection of additional resources that are flexible, fun, and easy-to-use to support growing in faith at home while traditional in-person catechetical programming is on hold. Our catechists and Director of Religious Education put together these resources to help your children during these unexpected weeks away from the classroom.

Answering Questions and Calming Kids’ Fears
Beginning the Conversation
If you want to have a discussion with your child, you might start is by simply asking the child what he or she has heard and then respond. You’ll want to provide facts and dispel misinformation and calm fears as much as possible. The widespread presence of media coverage can be overwhelming for children at best, and exposure should be limited to lessen any potential anxiety. Preschool through early elementary-aged children may be unaware of the outbreak, or they may have several questions and concerns. Children may wonder why terrible things happen. While events like this are hard to understand, children can be reminded that God is always with them, that there are always helpers, and that they can be helpers, too!
Offering Reassurance
In this time of crisis, young children may worry they or someone they love could become sick. Help affirm children’s sense of safety through reassurance and support. Tell children that their loved ones are doing everything that they can to be safe and healthy. Share comfort in a reminder of God’s love and knowing that he is always with us. Remind children that they can always talk and listen to God in prayer, too.
From the Village of Glenview E-Newsletter:
Staying at home to avoid the spread of COVID-19 can be stressful. Parents may be challenged with how to talk to their kids about the crisis, remain calm and stay busy. Here are some tips:
Realize this is temporary.
Keep your family's schedule consistent when it comes to bedtimes, meals and exercise.
Make time to do things that have made you and your family feel better in other stressful situations, such as cooking, reading, watching movies, listening to music, playing games, exercising, or engaging in religious activities (including participating in online services).
Have children participate in distance learning opportunities offered by their schools.
Recognize that feelings such as loneliness, boredom, fear of contracting disease, anxiety, stress and panic are normal reactions to a stressful situation like disease outbreak.
