Introduction
Hello! My name is Phoenix Satterfield, and I am a student at Science Leadership Academy in Center City. I have created this website to raise awareness for the dangers of sleep disorders and medication for them. Millennials are getting the least amount of sleep out of the last few generations (such as Gen Xers and Boomers), and that's why we need to be aware of the medications we can take and the treatment we can have.
I started working on this project in March of 2018, and I became interested in this topic because personally, a lack of sleep is something I can relate to more than eating disorders and sleep disorders. Only 15 percent of teenagers get a good amount of sleep each night on average, and I'm sure I'm not a part of that percentage.
I've already written two blogs on this issue (both can be found on the SLA website). The first one, which you can get to through here, is just general research on this topic. Basically, it's saying that the average teenager isn't getting a lot of sleep every night, and their entire generation gets less sleep than previous ones. The first posts shows a whole lot of statistics (some of which I've already mentioned in this introduction, along with the top reasons that the average teenager doesn't get a lot of sleep (such as cell phones and homework).
My second post will tell you about what four people said when I interviewed them (Three had insomnia, one had sleep apnea). Those interviews let me know more about how it feels to actually have one of those two sleep disorders. It also mentions a survey (an unofficial part of my plan) that I designed , but never really published (that's why only about seven people took it.
You can browse this website using the links in the top right corner.
You'll notice that there's no page of bibliography because it's already right here.
On this website you may find:
-The main causes and symptoms of insomnia along with four ways to treat it.
-The main causes and symptoms of sleep apnea along with three ways to treat it.
-A list of seven other sleep disorders to look out for, along with symptoms and treatment for (almost) all of them.
