The image on the left depict a transverse section of a R. humilis stem under the low power of the microscope (40X). The cells with secondary thickenings appear in pink due to safranin stain.
Under low power you will be able to observe the tissue arrangement of most young plant stems and roots. If you want to study the cells in detail, you have to use the medium power (100X) and/or high power (400X) of the light microscope.
