Bertha Maya

My name is Bertha Maya and my position is being the 9th Grade Student Representative for Teachers of Tomorrow. What I like about being part of the Hillcrest community is seeing how many people from different backgrounds are united together and making a positive impact in many ways and to achieve our goals.  During my free time, I usually help my parents with their little business everyday and study with my younger brother. My hobbies are solving puzzles (sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, crossword, word search), reading books, and playing video games. My plans after graduating high school are going to college (obviously), having a part time job, trying to save money, and have my own career (but I’ll let fate decide that for me). A quote that I like to share with the student body is: “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.” —A.A. Milne

With the short time I’ve spent as a student at Hillcrest HS, my favorite thing about the community is how diverse and inclusive it is. We’re all made up of so many different races, religions, beliefs, and orientations. In my free time, I enjoy reading and listening to music. My favorite genre of music is metal! Some of my favorite bands are Motionless in White, Black Sabbath, and Rammstein. After graduating from high school, I plan to attend college and graduate with a degree in psychology/sociology.
