Over the course of my four years at MS210Q, I ran the Math Homework Help Club (2018-2019 & 2020-2021), taught Saturday Regents Prep Classes (2018-2019), and was a part of Algebra For All. In the summer of 2019, I enrolled in the Algebra For All Summer Program. I completed the two-year program in 2021, participating in virtual seminars centered on student-led lessons and engaging mathematics activities. In addition, I am part of the Consultation Committee which focuses on important discussions about the school. I attend PTA, Security, and Attendance meetings where parents, students, and staff engage in meaningful conversations about school rules. This year, I also teach students in the Special Education Recovery Program and Math Enrichment Program to help with their math and literacy skills. In addition, I am a "big sister" in the Mentoring Program at our school, as well as, an ally for Out For Safe Schools Program. I am a part of the Sparkle and Shine Committee, helping assist with school events such as dances and graduation ceremonies. I also worked with the committee for College Access For All.
Every month, I update my classroom bulletin board with student work from the current topic of study. Not only does this show exemplary work of my students, but each month, students strive to get their work on the bulletin board. It serves as a motivation for students to work harder and participate more during class. In addition to student work, my classroom is also decorated with the math practice standards, anchor charts, and posters with definitions and examples of mathematical concepts.
The Accountable Talk way shown above is posted in my classroom so that students may used the sentence starters when discussing in small group or whole class discussions. These help students respond to each other in a respectful and productive way. It facilitates discussion and leads to agreements/disagreements amongst students when working together.
I always bring humor into my classroom as a way of connecting with my students and showing my personality with them. One way that I do this is by incorporating memes in my classroom. Pictured above is my "meme door" filled with educational humor. Students who walk by in the hallway often stop and read the memes for a quick laugh throughout the day.
For the February 2022 Valentine's Day Door Contest, my homeroom students in 7HT and I worked on our door decorations during lunch. We won the contest and earned a pizza party!
✨Sparkle & Shine✨
I assisted the Sparkle and Shine committee with putting together balloon arches for our 8th grade graduation ceremony.
I received the certificate above in Conflict Resolution Mediation over the span of 6 weeks on Saturdays.
To build a good rapport with my students and make my classroom a comfortable and welcoming learning environment, I always acknowledge birthdays and special events for my students. In 2019, my students surprised me during lunch with a birthday party. They coordinated with other teachers and decorated the room (pictured above). In 2020, birthday celebrations looked very different due to the state of our world in the midst of a pandemic. They were celebrated virtually but still made special!
