Dear TAOTS Families & Staff,

Here's what's happening at TAOTS on 

12/22/25 & 12/26/25

RECESS & GUIDLINES FOR PLAYING OUTDOORS

In cold weather, students will participate in outdoor play whenever possible. If it’s snowing, there is ice on the playground, or the “real feel” weather is below 30 degrees Fahrenheit (-1.1 degrees Celsius), outdoor recess will be canceled. On cold days, parents are expected to send students with coats, hats, scarves, and gloves.  School staff will make sure that students cover up skin, wear warm clothing, and use several layers to stay warm.   

In warm weather, when outdoor temperature is above 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32.2 degrees Celsius), children are at increased risk for heat-related illness and may have lower tolerance for exercise. When outdoor temperatures are in the 90s and humidity is high, school staff will:

• Reduce the intensity of outdoor activities lasting more than 15 minutes.

• Make sure students have easy access to water and encourage them to drink often.

• Pay special attention to students who may be more susceptible to heat related illness, like those with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes.

• When planning outdoor activity, schools should follow air quality recommendations provided by NYCPS.
