ART
Our PTA-funded Art program offers the students the chance to explore various mediums and styles. Our art teacher works with grades K-5 to unlock all student's creative abilities.
MUSIC
In October, grades 1, 2, and 3 began a series of 13 music sessions that will culminate with a performance at the end of January. The students are learning about the core elements of music through singing and playing instruments. They learn to play rhythm instruments, handbells, and recorders according to their specific grade level. Beginning in February grades K, 4, and 5 will begin their sessions.
DEBATE
This highly motivated group of students participates in two District 14 debate competitions each year. They do research and learn to write persuasive arguments to address both sides of a given topic. They work in pairs to present these arguments orally for the debate.
PS 31 placed SECOND at our most recent debate!
HYDROPONICS
Our hydroponics lab is a hands-on learning experience that introduces students to the concept of growing plants without soil. This lab encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and environmental awareness in young learners. Students get the chance to monitor plant growth and learn about the importance of nutrients and water in plant development.
STEAM
STEAM is an exciting program that combines science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics to help us learn and have fun at the same time! In this program, we get to use our creativity and problem-solving skills to build and program robots, design coll structures, and even create our very own computer games. We learn how to write codes, which are special instructions that tell the robots what to do. We also get to work in teams, which helps us learn how to collaborate and communicate with others. STEAM is a fantastic way to explore the world of technology and discover our potential as future engineers and inventors.
STUDENT COUNCIL
This group of kind, compassionate students have made it their mission to be strong advocates for the PS 31 student body and engage with the local community as well.
Newspaper- We have a student-run school newspaper that gives the PS 31 student body a powerful voice. It includes a variety of articles and special features with a unique student perspective.
Book Buddies- We have a terrific group of 4th and 5th graders who visit pre-k, kindergarten, and first-grade classes each week to read to and entertain our youngest students.
Fun-ke-teers- This fun-loving hard-working group of student volunteers visit and spend quality time with our pre-k students. They draw, play, and demonstrate how having fun can also be educational. They are excellent role models role models for our youngest students!
